I'd like to pack a 12 pack of soda in our checked luggage, but didn't know if the air pressure would cause the cans to explode! How about the plastic bottles? Any advice would be appreciated. :)

I wouldn't put soda in my luggage. What if it explodes and gets over everything? That would be awful. Just buy some soda when you arrive.

Will the gas in it not expand when in the air? I would freak that it would either leak or explode in the suitcase and make a mess of the contents of your case. Why do you want to take soda with you?

I've had my water bottles expand or contract after a trip. (Forget which.) But the flight attendants serve cans of soda, so I assume they survive during the flight somehow.

How about wrapping them up in extra layers of plastic bags? This way if they explode, at least the leak is contained & you can just toss the whole bag.

The cabin is pressurized, the cargo hold is not

I would't chance wrecking all my packed luggage for a 12 pack of pop. Why pack pop anyways, you can buy it anywhere.

I wouldn't chance it getting all over everything either. The way they toss luggage around it could get opened or crushed.

Ok, I'll admit it....I've done it before....My DH loves red cream soda and you can only find it in one place...so I bought 3 12 packs....I wrapped them in plastic trash bags and put them in with not so important stuff for the flight home.....didn't have a problem at all.

I don't think I would try the bottles though.

Now....if I Were you...I would just hit the store and buy them there...they make your luggage heavy which could cost you more and you never know you might have a problem.

Have a great trip!

We have brought soda home in our luggage with no problems. We just pack it between clothing. However, we do have hard sided luggage. Don't know if that makes a difference. Never had a problem.

I had luggage and clothes ruined once by someone who packed soda in their luggage. It exploded in flight, leaked out of their suitcase and into mine.

I wouldn't pack soda, because of the carbonation, but was thinking about bringing some bottled water with me on my trip. I was hoping to pack a little "Playmate" cooler with water bottles and then checking it with our luggage. We'll be taking Magical Express and won't have a car to make a grocery stop and really don't need enough things to make it worthwhile to do a grocery delivery. What do you think?

I have. One time one leaked but I think it was from jostling not from air pressure. The next time I just put it in a plastic bag first. No problems.

When I flew back from Michigan to Orlando last week, I had 2 (2-liter) bottles of Faygo in my carry on. Well, my flights back were all on regional jets (the tiny little ones that are barely big enough to be a jet), and there's not really enough overhead compartment space for carry ons, so I had to gate-check my bag. The pop survived just fine.

Soda in luggage.... it alters the homing signal and that's not good!
