Can you pay for meal plan with disney gift card?

I was hoping someone could answer a question for me. We have rented before in the past several times and are planning on renting again this year. Now when we add the meal plan, we have to pay for it right away whereas before we could pay for it at check in. Since we rent, this requires us having to give our credit card number to the DVC member so they can call and reserve the meal plan. Not that I don't trust the member we rent from, but I don't particularly like giving my credit card number to anyone.

Now, if I were to book right through Disney and do a room/ticket/meal plan reservation, I could pay for that with a disney gift card. So my question is, if a DVC member calls to add a meal plan to their reservation, can they pay with a gift card and give the gift card #? Thanks for anyone who knows!

I had heard about having to pay for it immediately also, when it is added to the ressie, so I waited until 2 days before checking in to have it added. For someone reason, I was allowed to pay for it when I checked in.

In the past, I have used multiple (16 of them) gift cards to pay for dining.
