Can you help me slow down?

We joined in 2007, and made 2 trips to WDW since ('08 and '09). Our last trip in November was the BEST trip yet! It was laid back, relaxing... never before have we come home from WDW relaxed! Knowing that we'll be back helps A LOT in how we tour WDW. We did the rides we like, skipped things we've done before and were not so important to us. We spent a lot of time at the pool. I cannot wait for our next trip!

The main draw for DH to buy was that we could slow down the pace of our touring. We were really commando, rope drop to close for a week. We are planning afternoon breaks this year, slower evenings. The back of my mind still says "We didn't get to X last year, have to do it. This was a favorite, must-do."

How can I strike the balance of enjoying our BLT home, and seeing the World? Does it come gradually with each year?

The first trip I went to WDW with my wife was pre-DVC and she also had the "commando" mentality. A "well-oiled machine" is what i think i called her for the way we got into the park first thing in the AM and banged out each ride, one by one, systematically and strategically till the park closed.

Then we started going every other year to every year and finally bought DVC. Now, it has gotten to the point where we are at a nice, relaxed pace. We don't get there first thing and certainly don't stay till closing, with a few exceptions here and there.

We basically do all the "new" attractions, which we haven't seen yet and are excited to experience and then move on to our "favorites". Then, we go from place to place at a relaxed pace, eating lunch or dinner whenever we planned on going. If that means leaving the park and going back to the hotel or to another park, we go and are unrushed.

No matter what, there will always be somewhat of an "anxious" feeling from time to time. Hey... you ARE in Disney World after all! Of course and the crowds will sometimes get the better of you.

One thing DVC allowed us to do was go for a longer period of time and allowed us multiple days in all the parks, whereas a normal OOP trip might limit you to a week or less and you cant always hit everywhere you like in the time given.

We also take time to explore other areas on grounds such as other hotel grounds, restaurants and attrations. We even did the "Welcome Home Wednesday" gig, which is fun to go and see. We also started doing some of the tours - such as Keys to the Kingdom and the Sunset and Sunrise Safaris at AKL, which is a nice change of pace and allows for new and exciting aspects of the parks you may not have experienced before.

So, the best advice I can give is... do not go in with too much of a plan. The most planning we do now is Dining Rezzies and basically what parks on what days either based on those rezzies or around extended park Magic hours if you still can't get rid of all that commando-ness out of your system!

Enjoy your trip and take every day one day at a time and really see what there really is to the magic of WDW!

. If we are there for 7 days it's 7am - Midnite everyday once it's in your blood I don't think you can get it out. Always something new or something you didn't see no matter how many times you go. :goodvibes:cool1::scared1:

And remember Por favor mantengase alejado de las puertas!

That used to be us and I dont know if it'd DVC or having a couple of kids, or both but we definitly have slowed down. After going several times in last few years we skip certain attractions/shows so that helps slow down the pace.

I agree with GoofItUp that having young kids helps. We started with afternoon naps when we took our then 2 1/2 year old before purchasing DVC. It actually does work out better. You can still see and do alot without getting totally exhausted and overheated. You will find that you don't have to see and do everything. Last year, one day, my son wanted to swim instead of going to the parks. Just be flexible and let everyone have the time they want.

Also, if you stay for longer periods, you can plan 'free' days. We usually go to the parks for the first two days, then have a 'free' day to sleep in, relax, swim, or do whatever we want. Then have two more days at the parks, then another 'free' day, etc. So, you can potentially be a park commando and still have days to totally relax! Plus, you will find a lot more things to do at WDW that peaks your interest! My DH is trying the Richard Petty Driving Experience during our May trip. I will be hitting the Spa! Just find what works for you, your family, and your vacationing style.

The biggest thing that helps me get over "but we didn't do..." problems is to always have an idea for when we are coming back. We were at BWV in January and knowing that we'd be going back in May definitely helped out. That's the real beauty of DVC to me... knowing a little magic is right around the corner.

We also try to focus on trying a couple of new things each trip. Sometimes we are so attached to those old favorites that we never have time to slow down and try something new. In January we did the Aqua Seas Tour at Epcot, something we'd never made time for before. And voila! Brand new favorite thing to add to our list.

Finally, I figure it is kind of like some advice I read about playing fetch with your dog. "Always leave him wanting one more throw." If I did everything, every time, would I eventually just not want to go back? (Okay, not very likely, but you get the point.)
