This picture was taken in May of 1988.
It was the 200th anniversary of ____________??
The Constitution?

Maybe 200 million WDW guests by then? I can't find anything of significance for that year, at least in Google.

Sounds like an excellent question for Dave Smith, the Disney archivist.

It looks like the Constitution was signed in 1787.
Maybe Disney had a celebration that lasted longer than a year, like Disney tends to do!
I just don't remember that anniversary being such a big deal.
Hmmmmmm

How do you know the date of the picture? The reason I'm asking is if its printed on the back it could mean when the picture was developed.

I'm almost positive that May of 1988 was the date of the vacation.
I can't find the pictures right now, I put them in my computer quite a while ago.
Thanks for the input!

This sounds like something my brother in law would know. Unfortunately, they're out of town right now. If you don't figure it out before then, email me in about a week and remind me to ask him. :)

That's really strange. We were there in May of '88 and I don't recall seeing that. My curiosity is peaked now. I'll check with the rest of my gang and see if anyone recalls this. I know I don't have any pics of it.

My husband says it was in celebration of the Constitution even though that would have been in 1987.
I just don't know for sure.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Well I am just searching and trying to find things that might ring a bell.

1988 when Disney switched over to the CD format.

Things that opened that year:
1988: Mickey's Starland (MK); Norway showcase (EC); Disney-MGM Studios Production facilities
1988: Disney's Grand Floridian Beach Resort; Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort

1988: Mickey's 60th birthday parade; "IllumiNations" premiere (EC)

Now I am really curious. I'll be watching for the answer
:D .

We were there in October of 1988 (I think that was the right month) and I'm sure that wasn't there. We did see Starland and Mickey's 60th birthday celebration was going on.

'88 was our first trip to WDW, so I would have caught it in one of my castle pictures, I'm sure. Anyone know the castle well enough to tell which side this was taken on? I'm puzzled.

montessori - cute kid! :) my sister had that doll thingie (the pink one) when she was little, too. :D

It's the front, where the Walt & Mickey statue is now.

This is pretty cool! I love old WDW photos, and this was during a long WDW dry spell of mine. If they did this for the constitution, I wonder what they did in 1976? I actually was there that year, but don't have any photos of special events.

Actually, what we all perceive and think is the front of the Castle, viewing it from the Main Street/Hub side, actually is the back. The front is in Fantasyland and facing the carousel. As per Keys to the Kingdom Tour. It still seems like the front to me though, on the Hub side.

Okay, then I'm sure this wasn't in front of the castle when we were there. I'd have remembered it for sure and had photos of it, too.

July 1987 - Total attendance tops 250 million

I can't find anything on a google search either. The only thing I can find for actual Disney events for 1988 were:
1988

MK - Mickey's Birthdayland (Renamed Mickey's Starland 1989)

EPCOT - Norway
Illuminations

Disney-MGM Studios Production facilities

Events - Mickey’s 60th Birthday Parade

Resorts - Disney’s Grand Floridian Beach Resort & Spa
Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
