Hi, anyone know if you can go online wirelessly at Animal Kingdom or any of the Disney Hotels or for that matter any place at all on Disney property?

When I was at the AKL in August, it wasn't high-speed Internet ready. However, the Dis does have it listed as supposedly ready now: click here. Hopefully, someone will chime in here and let you know if it is indeed high-speed Internet ready (my fingers are crossed that it is).

As to Wi-Fi, I used Wi-Fi at the Grand Floridian this Summer. I used it in both the concierge lounge and in the main building's lobby. If you look at the link that I gave above, it tells you which resorts and areas are Wi-Fi ready.

I hope that helped.

There are wireless locations at many of the resorts, but from what I've heard, there is no wireless in any of the guest rooms (yet). :)

Say on that page Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge - scheduled 10/27/05 so it should be available now, anyone know if it is?

Called and the lady confirmed that they do have, that it costs $9.95 per 24 hours you are connected and they supply the cable for you (but I bring my own anyways) :) so that's cool, also it must be brand new as she had to check her screen to see if they had it.

So I probably just connected full time while I am staying at the Hotel.

I had a couple of wireless options from my room at the CR tower, can't remember the names but one was unsecured and one was secured, I think it was WDW something. I never pursued the cost or anything, it was nice not having my kids fighting over the internet for a few days ;) , although returning to over 100 emails was a pain !

I called AKL last week, and they said that they do have wireless hi speed available now!

She did state the price was $9.95 for 24 hours, but I don't know if that is considered "1 day=24 hours", or, does that mean only the hours you are actually connected?? (Didn't think to claify until I hung up!!)

Knowing Disney I'd venture to guess that it's 24 hours from the time you log on, regardless of how long you actually stay connected. I seem to remember that was the guidelines on the wired high speed internet paperwork I saw at the POFQ in July.

We used both Wi-Fi and hard-wired Internet connections during our WDW stay this summer. The clock started ticking from the moment we agreed to use the service and pay the fees. The clock continued ticking for the next 24 hours.

For Wi-Fi service at the GF, we had to enter our credit card number in the welcome screen. For some odd reason we couldn't get the Internet service to begin so we had to call the phone number that was stated. Whoever answered the phone took care of us immediately (it was a very quick phone call to a third-party service).

For the times when we used hard-wired connections at SSR, the charges appeared on our resort bill daily.

I should note that when we stayed at the Grand Californian in Disneyland this summer, we did have Wi-Fi access in our room, but our room was directly across the courtyard from the concierge lounge where there was Wi-Fi service (no big deal since we brought our wireless router with us just in case we wanted to go wireless in our room -- we're geeks that way ;) ).

I bring this up because my guess is that if you're in a WDW resort room that is right next to one of the concierge lounges (and quite a few of the lounges have Wi-Fi connections), you could ~probably~ get Wi-Fi in your resort room. However, this was not the case for us at the GF -- our concierge room overlooked the marina and Wi-Fi didn't reach that far (we were the very last room on the 3rd floor).

I'm thrilled to hear that the AKL FINALLY has Internet service. They didn't have it when we stayed there in August and yet our Fort Wilderness cabin did (go campgrounds!).

I hope this helped.

According to the paperwork OKW gave me in September, it was 24 hours from the time you logged on. I just used dial up with a local number and logged on that way. It was a 70 cent call (I think) for each time you logged on. It did not matter how long you were actually online. I just unplugged the phone and plugged that in my laptop and then called the front desk for a local dial up number for AOL. For me paying the $9.95 was too expensive per day. i logged on once a day, so my costs for the week were less than the $9.95. Just a thought.

Yes, Disney has their own internal Wi-Fi network. It is called something like WLANWDW (I just asked my son if he remembered the name and he thought it was something like that). Their Wi-Fi network is definitely secured because we tried to access it. ;)

If you were in the Tower at the CR, you probably saw a few of the following Wi-Fi networks:
Front Desk sitting area
14th Floor Concierge sitting area
Outer Rim Bar
1st Floor Convention Center Lobby
2nd Floor Convention Center Lobby
Feature Pool

Excellent point, KPeterso, for those who don't need high-speed access.

Great news! We'll be at the AKL in Jan.

I travel a lot for business, and $9.95 is the rate at hotels all over the US, (well, some are free) and I am glad that WDW isn't charging more. Usually there is an option of less time for less money, but it ends up with the 24 hours being the most economical. I will have to bring my laptop, not because I have work to do while on vacation, but because I am a computer junkie! I won't want to miss out on my IM's! :cool1:

Okay...okay... I guess you can call me dumb (just be a little nice ;)) If I don't ask... I will never know... so please forgive me for not knowing this. First I am computer illiterate. I don't own wireless laptop. What is Wi-Fi? Wi is for wireless?... and what is Fi? Thank you.

*Fantasia*, excellent question. Here is a definition from the Wi-Fi.org website:

What is Wi-Fi?

Wi-Fi®, or Wireless Fidelity, allows you to connect to the internet from virtually anywhere at speeds of up to 54Mbps. Wi-Fi-enabled computers and handsets use radio technologies based on the IEEE 802.11 standard to send and receive data anywhere within the range of a base station.

I hope that helped. :)
