from ohio...want to do DL and DCA. Also want to tour alcatraz north and the aircraft carrier south. Any other suggestions along this route to not miss. We are not interested in hollywood or expensive shopping. just wanna have vacation fun with multi age family.....toddler to 20s.

The bulk of your visit will be DLR. Please read this thread DLR guide for WDW vets.

In San Diego visit the Zoo, or Safari Park, and consider Sea World. While in Souther California if it's warm go to a beach or watch surfers.

Drive up highway 1 from LA to SF, it takes about 2 days. You may want to see Hearst Castle, and the Montery Bay Aquarium as you go. There are also red woods as you near the north end of this drive, and some just north of SF in Muir Woods national monument.

Spend 3 days in SF. There is a lot to see there. Citypass may be useful ando other than the art museum all are good for all ages. http://www.citypass.com/san-francisco

LA to SF is 2 day drive? Wow i better check that out....didnt realize so far

Technically if you take the 5 freeway (which has really nothing to see and goes through central CA), it takes a day. If you want to go out on the 1 freeway like skiingfast was saying, it's much more scenic (along the ocean), but takes longer. It still takes only day (a longer day) but has more to see along the way and you can split the drive into 2 days if you want to stop somewhere.

ok... I will have to consider the options along the longer route to see which is best for us. We are typically a get in the car and get there quick group.

We have been to WDW many times. We usually allow a day per park then another day or two to do whatever. We did US and IOA in florida last year the same way-1 day per park then 1 day for whatever. Is 3 nights at DL resort enough or would 4 be most realistic for summer travel? I need to read the WDW verteran thread that was linked for me. I am trying to get a sketchy idea how much time we need to allow. When we fly from Ohio to Florida, our arrival day is used as a park day because we usually arrive in Florida around 9. I don't know how to consider our arrival and departure days yet. I know I have the time change advantage on the arrival day but this could make for some tired people to turn that into an extended park day. Need to figure out which city to fly into and the most practical travel route for the time we allow, I guess.
