Can you get upgraded and be disappointed?

We got 6556, which you think would ge a good room, midship and non-connecting. WELL, the room was SO LOUD I couldn't sleep. The entire room vibrated and during the day it sounded like hammering in the floor beneath us. After several calls to Guest Services they told us it was the high pressure water line they use to clean the decks ran underneath this cabin. Whenever they turned it on, usually at 3AM, our entire cabin would vibrate and you'd hear terrible noise.

Uh oh... we got room 6560... I hope this doens't happen in that cabin too. :worried:

Who knows.... We were told that the prior occupants of 6556 didn't complain of any noise problem and neither did our neighbors. We did notice the noise in the hall and while going down the stairs that would be right in front of our cabin, you would be two doors down and definately not been effected. My guess is that there was a problem that eventually did get fixed, though I didn't ask too much after we got moved to the quiet room.

i have a silly question...for those who do not want to be upgraded...can you refuse the upgrade if they move you to a horrible room?

Usually it is a big problem (and if you were booked as a guarantee I don't think there is any hope because they can move you up until you check-in at the pier). If they upgrade your room that means they gave your original room to someone else. That's why I think you need to decide when you make the reservation if you want to gamble or not.

Your best hope is to call immediately and try to stop it before they finish moving someone to your room. But depending on how they are notifying you, it may already be a couple of days past.

I could see it happening if you booked a SPH room 18 months in advance and really liked deck 5, to be disappointed in an upgrade to Cat 9, especially if one of the noisy rooms on deck 2.

Ok, new to the Cruise Dis Boards... what is SPH? :confused3

Why would they give someone's original room away in the first place? :confused3

Lori, I'm sorry you had probs. with 6556. I was in this tateroom on the Wonder and didn't have any troubles. However, I liked 5650, aa whitewall verandah, better.....

I'm in 7120 for my next cruise (secret cat 7) andcan't wait to sail....

We have friends that booked a Cat 7 and were upgraded to Cat 3. (We also booked a Cat 7 and were not upgraded, but I digress).

They loved the Cat 3 - but they could here the chairs on deck above being moved and the scrapping of the chairs drove them nuts.

Do you recall which room they had that they could hear chairs up above? We are in cat. 3 on the Wonder and am still trying to figure out which ones are the best regarding sound. Thanks! Lisa

The problem with 2626 was that it apparently had a cargo door under it, which woke us up VERY early at the ports. I never got a good night's sleep. We had some noise from the galley above, but nothing as bad as the cargo door.

I've never stayed in a cat 3, so take this with a grain of salt. If you're staying in a Cat 3, pick either the true midship ones, or 8086. They don't have any of the pool deck above them so shouldn't have the pool chair problem. We stayed in 8092 and will be staying in 8088 next cruise and didn't have that problem.

We booked a guarantee category 6 and NEVER will book guarantee again. This also happened during the day too. We kept voicing our displeasure and eventually were moved to 8092, an upgrade to a 4. Now, this was almost as far aft as you can get and had a solid veranda, which was a bummer for our kids. But, we LOVE aft and took it to get rid of the noise. This location was quiet, with the exception of the connecting door and the kids next door who always slammed the door when coming/going.

Oh...I hope we won't be disappointed. Disney called today to let us know that they upgraded us to room 6556 from 2010. I was so excited when I got the message (I wantede a vendanah), but after reading this and another thread, I'm getting very nervous. This is our first cruise, and I want everything to be perfect. Bummer!!!

Well, for what it's worth, my family and I LOVED 6556!!!! I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

You know, fletchers, with the right combination of :lovestruc and :wizard:, I think you can make ANY cabin a special one. After all, that's the cabin that has the pillows your loved ones fluff up after a long day of memories, the blankets that they snuggle down under for five more minutes at the start of another Disney day, and the phone that rings with Mickey wanting to talk to YOU! :goodvibes

It'll be good.
