If you decide to rent your points to a non-DVC member and they mention to Disney employees that they paid for the points? From what I understand you are not supposed to sell your points.

Also, what if there is damage done to the room, can the renter be held accountable for and damage that the rentee causes to the room?

Thanks!

Well somebody ought to touch it.

My impression is that renting points is neither legally nor morally wrong, and that Disney understandably does not encourage the practice nor participate in such transactions, but neither do they forbid it. But then I don't have a DVC contract in my hand.

I'm sure I'm not alone in this impression. If the facts are otherwise, it would be a great service to say so.

I believe the only stipulation in our contract is that it is not permissable to own points for the sole or primary purpose of renting them out for a profit or selling reservations. How enforceable that rule is...I don't know.

We are permitted to rent points out. Many members do so on a semi-regular basis...if they have extra points, have to cancel a trip, have guests cancel, whatever.

As far as damages....I think members can be held liable for damages made by guests (or renters). That's why renting your points out is a little risky.

Just my understanding of the rules...

The legal paperwork states in a number of locations that renting is ok. It does state that "commercial use" is not ok but is very vague on this issue. Some would like to say that anything for a "profit" meaning more than your dues or anything other than just to family and friends is "commercial". I think it's obvious that the DVC intent was to give themselves and out and to protect themselves from someone putting up a billboard on the Turnpike along with a neon sign in front of their business. Legally, DVC cannot prevent you from renting what you own.

You should know this is a hot topic with those on both sides feeling strongly so don't take it personally if this deterioriates into a "discussion". Go back and search for other threads to get a flavor for the feelings and thinking involved.
