Can you get food to go?

My husband wants to try the crawfish etouffe at Boatwright's dining hall but I don't want to use a table dining for this. Can we order it go ? We have never been to WDW so this dining plan stuff has me so stressed

The Disney restaurants aren't set up for take out orders but you can make an ADR, get your table and ask for your order to be boxed up. You can pay cash or charge it to your room instead of using a table service credit for it.

Most of the restaurants don't have boxes to take anything to go...

As others have said, Disney restaurants, for the most part don't do Take Out.

To do so:
. . . would require additional kitchen staff for Take-Out-Orders, only.
. . . would require redesign of some kitchens as there would not be ample access to walk around for short-orders.
. . . would increase waste, as the amount of food is not predictable, as no ADR's to tell the dining load.
. . . would reduce the amount of diners, since many would opt for a quick Take-Out an not pay for a big meal inside.

You don't have to use a credit. You can pay cash for the meal. If the rest of the family doesn't want to eat a full meal, you can just have a coke or something to keep him company.

Take out dining questions are becoming as ubiquitous as the "can my 30 year old picky eater DS/D order off the children's menu?" question. What's up with that?

Food at Disney is getting more expensive, so if some of the family want to eat at the cheaper place, but one person really wants to try one dish, people are trying to work out how to keep everyone happy and keep costs down.

Thanks! I wondered why I was seeing more and more "does Disney do take out?" threads each week.

This is absolutely false. As someone with a very small appetite, I never eat all my food and have gotten to go boxes from pretty much every restaurant in WDW.
Yes. I remember doing to go boxes when we did dinner and were going back to the room afterward. I think this was in Epcot. I didn't do them everywhere, because it would be cumbersome to lug boxes around the parks, and I think that's why we don't see it as often, but they do have them!

While what you say is true, getting a box for leftovers is an entirely different animal than getting a to-to order. To-go orders totally bog a kitchen down, while you boxing up your own leftovers after having your server bring a box with your check has no effect on a slammed kitchen.

So yeah...while SOME do have to-go boxes, there are very good reasons they don't offer meals to-go. Rusty listed several above.

1) I recommend sharing appys, and/or entrees, and/or desserts. *
. . . makes a far cheaper meal
. . . it also satisfies the smaller appetites
2) MrsRustyScupper and I do this at EVERY meal at WDW.
3) Our "typical" meal consists of
. . . drinks
. . . shared light appy
. . . shared entrée

NOTE: The ONLY thing I don't share is the Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake at LTT lunch.

I'm not disputing the fact most restaurants at WDW won't do TO GO orders, rather that they don't have BOXES. Yes, they do have boxes for their patrons to take left overs out of the restaurant.

I'm not interested in take out dinner. My husband wants to try a dish there and I didn't want to use our table dinner on that restaurant but we will just buy the dish he wants to try

Thank you! This is the first time we are going to WDW and I'm still learning. Your answer was so helpful.
