are people allowed to park at the Polynesian and get a dole whip if they are not a resort guest?

family's in town for a volleyball tournament and can’t go to the parks.

would like to do this and maybe take a walk around the resort.

As far as I know, this is currently not allowed. However, you can park at Magic Kingdom and walk over. It's a fairly short walk from TTC. I guess that could make it an expensive Dole Whip though?

We have done this, just explained to the guard we were there to eat and were allowed in and to park. We explored and left in an hour and a half or so. If they are busy they have the right to refuse you if not a guest, but they still encourage dining at the resorts.

Have you done this during Covid? My understanding is that this is currently not allowed. Seems like an arbitrary rule, though.

Yes, we have done this during covid, as I say it is more up to the security guard and the timing of your request. We had a non park day and did this around lunch time but I imagine evenings would be more difficult. If you are staying on property elsewhere they seem to be ok with it and I have also had friends simply take the bus to Poly from a park, grab a dole whip and take the bus back.

Thanks for your replies. We’d be driving ourselves. We’ve done it pre covid. Wasn’t sure if it was disallowed due to covid.

Things are changing rapidly but as of right now the rule is that you can't do it unless you have an ADR. In practice this has meant if you drive to the resort yourself you'll likely have problems but not if using Disney transportation. Since you're coming in your own car I would make an ADR for Kona just to be on the safe side. They're fairly easy to get.

Thanks. I actually thought about that. Is there a cancellation fee for reservations at Kona? We do not intend to eat there.

Even before covid, Disney was wise to the fact people would try to park at one of the monorail resorts in order to avoid paying for parking at MK. Someone mentioned on another thread if you arrive via Disney transportation (i.e. bus or monorail), there is no issue in going to the resort. Arriving by car without a valid ADR and/or at peak times when they are likely to be full, you could get turned away. Making an ADR without actually intending to use it is also an example of trying to 'game' the system. You get charged a no-show fee if you have an ADR and then no one ever shows up.

Yeah, to be clear, I was suggesting having an actual meal there and making a day of it. If not, then the only legit way to do it is to pay to park at the TTC and walk over.

Most of the time you can tell the guard attendant that you are going to eat and or shop and it will be no problem. There is also Dole whip sold at Disney Springs so that may be fun for them too.

It’s a roll of dice really. Guards’ methods vary and a lot depends on trends that become problematic at each resort. Between Poly construction, park capacity increasing, fireworks starting soon and the Hotel side opening in July, they may start redirected more guests to alternatives.

You could also try placing a Mobile Order at Captn Cooks to increase your chances. They sometimes ask you hit the ‘I’m here’ button at the guard gate. I recommend the meatballs 😊 Then have Dole Whip dessert.

I've got three friends that tried this at different times and even having hit "I'm here, prepare my order" they were not allowed in. So while it's better than claiming you "just want to eat/shop", it's not a sure bet either.

I would take a chance and try to drive there. The guard will probably turn you away, but you never know. Just have a plan B.

What I meant was the guard having people hit the ‘I’m here’ button before proceeding, that’s what Contemporary guard made us do when we were staying BeachClub. Same trip in January we also stayed at Poly and at that point Contemporary guard waved us right thru citing where we were staying is all they needed to know about our visit to let us park.

During covid they will not let you park unless you are staying at a resort. You can walk there from the TTC. I know because I thought my bus pick up was at the TTC and it was not so the cast member said my best option was to walk to the Poly and take the bus to Disney Springs as my hotel was in walking distance from there. So yes I walked to the Poly and no problem.

Yes. These three friends all hit "I'm here. Prepare my order." at the guard shack and they were still not allowed in.

Contemporary has since solved that by only allowing Contemporary guests to mobile order.
