Brie was on sale at Kroger for $1.99 (reg,6.99) and it had a coupon on it for $1.00 off. Well Sunday was double dollars, so it made the brie free. I purchased several of them and am now wondering can I freeze them?
Has anyone ever tried to freeze Brie?
If I cant freeze it any ideas what to do with all of it?

Here is part of an article I read online:

Soft-ripened cheeses, she says, such as Brie and Camembert, should not be frozen "unless absolutely necessary," whatever that means. Semi-soft cheeses, like Monterey Jack, Munster, Havarti, and Gorgonzola, tend to become crumbly after freezing. And hard aged cheeses, such as Cheddar, Colby, Gruyère, Asiago, and Manchego, will simply benefit from continuing their aging process in your refrigerator.

Hope this helps...You could always have a cocktail party!party: I'll come! I love brie...

I have frozen it before, I can't remember how it turned out! My mom freezes everything! Try it and see how it is after a few days.

Wow...that's crazy cheap! My Brie addiction is eating me out of house and home.

I wouldn't freeze it. You can try but I have never had any luck with freezing cheese. Period.

I have a question that's OT...I have been shopping at Kroger recently, how do you know when double dollar days happen?!

TIA!

Not that this will help, but I have seen Brie/Phyllo appetizers in the frozen foods section, so at least some form of Brie can be frozen.... :confused3

they havent had double dollars here as much as they used to, I really miss it.
I dont get a weekly paper so I didnt realize it until I went to the store on Friday. They had double dollars here for the Super Bowl weekend (fri-sun only). So I went back on Sunday with the coupons I wanted to use (1.00)
and saw the Brie. No one was paying attention to it so I gave it the attention it needed:lmao: Now I am trying to figure out what to do with it all.

I've frozen brie before with no problem. Same as you...picked it up on sale but didn't want to use it right away. Enjoy!

Freezing soft cheese is not the norm, as freezing can change the texture/structure of the cheese.

I suppose the OP could give it a try rather than let the Brie go to waste. The problem I had was that it dried the cheese out. It was no longer soft and gooey. I suppose it would be best to use as an ingredient in a recipe rather than eat it on its own after defrosting.

No you can't, you must send it to me!

Wow, I would love that deal. I love brie!
