As you are aware we are hoping to invest in DVC in novemeber. The guide we spoke to said we would prob have a use year of June. Does that mean if we buy in November we would have to use the points by June 2012 then another lot are allocated? We wernt planning on staying until august. ALso will they allocate pro rata for the points as obviously we will be buying half way through the year so will we only be able to use the points for 7 months worth? What I mean is will they still let us use the points we buy (220ish) before the June or will we have less points given for that year.
Sorry if I sound a dimwitt but dont quite understand. Would we still be able to bank those points or rent them if we cant go?

TIA
Alyson

Well, it's 11 years since we bought DVC, but I think it goes like this:

Yes, June 2011 use year means points available until June 2012. You should be able to bank the points, although not all of them (in theory) if you don't buy until November. I think they allocate all the points (220 in your case).
I would talk it through with your guide, explain that you don't want to stay until August 2012 and I'm sure they will work something out.
The one thing you do pay pro rata is the annual dues. These will need to be paid up front, but will only be from the date you join (Nov 11) until the end of your use year (June 12).

As I say, it's a long time since we joined, so if the memory is playing up or things have changed since then, I'm sure someone will correct me! :thumbsup2

Kev was almost there :thumbsup2

You can choose your use year - if the guide offers one you don't want you can request another. Try to pick a use year where you don't routinely travel in the last 4 months.

When you buy you will get a full set of current year points. You can bank these points for use in the next use year.

Dues are billed by Calendar year so your dues will be pro-rated from November to 31 December then 2012 dues will be payable in January.

Thanks. Do u think i should leave the use year at june. We will be mainly travelling in august or october. Why did u mention 4 months? Can i not book then?

Do you think you will ever travel in spring? If so June might not be the best use year otherwise its good :thumbsup2

Points can only be banked upto 4 months before the end of use year so if you cancelled or change you have less flexibility.

Oh i seee thankyou. Dd id 8 now so will be going in school hols when she moves school.

So the banking rule is 4 months :confused3 So if I wanted to go at easter and my use year was june and only used 200 points I cannot bank the remainder:confused3We are more likely to travel from august -december though so I think June will be good.

For a June use year any points would have to be banked by 31 January.

If you travelled at Easter you would be OK unless you had to cancel after the banking window closed (but outside of 30 days) as you would only have until 31 May to use the points.

Ive generally not got any points left to bank so dont worry too much :thumbsup2 always looking for more.

That is correct, except if you are wanting to buy elsewhere other than the current sales, i.e. if you wanted to buy at VWL or OKW, for example, where you would be buying a contract which has been ROFR'd by Disney. In that instance, you wouldn't necessarily be able to choose the use year as the contract is already set.

I am wondering if it's a big hassle or a hassle at all to have 2 different contracts in 2 different use Years? We are in Dec. @ SS. Looking at either and March or June at the same resort. Has anyone ran into difficulites with this?
