...I am a bit crazy and one of the things I like to do is put Disney Dollars aside for our upcoming vacation for expenses I know we are definitely going to incur (resort mugs, tips, OOP breakfasts, etc.). We are going to do a Wishes Fireworks Cruise our first night and I ran into the Disney Store to purchase $320 in Disney Dollars. This is the last of what I need to put aside and I'm done.

CM at the local mall said "Oh we have a limit of how much we can sell one customer per day." There was much discussion about if the amount was $250 or $300. After calling several other stores the thought was maybe it was $500. They were afraid to go over the daily limit because they would get in trouble and get a non-compliance report. They did go ahead and sell me the $320 I had requested but it was a good 15-20 minutes in the store while they tried to figure it all out.

So what do you think? Is this so they make sure they have enough on hand for other people? My friend says if I'm stupid enough to give them $320 they should be more than willing to take it.

Just thought I would see what you thought. I wasn't upset...a little frustrated because the closest mall is about 25 miles away. But I'm in town all the time and could have just stopped buy to pick up the rest sometime in the next week.

Thats interesting. I buy Disney Dollars all the time (not that many at once though) and have never heard them say anything.

Well, I can see their point. I mean, with the economy chugging along so flawlessly Disney is obviously in a position to turn away money because they don't want one person to have all the fun. Oh, wait...

Have never heard of a limit...but have heard of pre-ordering Disney Dollars.

I decided to give my family annual passes for Christmas many years ago (1996).

As I wasn't making much money at the time, this would be there only gift from me, I wanted to make a "big deal" out of it. I didnt want to just wrap a little cardboard card.

I went to the Disney Store at Pointe Orlando and asked about ordering $1050 in one dollar Disney Dollars. I explained that I wanted to give each person 350$1 Disney Dollars so that they could buy their annual passes.

After much discussion, they agreed to order them and it took two weeks.

It was a HUGE hit.

After Christmas, we went to Disney so everyone could get their annual pass. The person in the ticket booth kept asking if we "REALLY" wanted to use these to buy passes? After the second time she asked, we finally asked her why she was asking. She explained that we had 1050 sequential 25th anniversary dollars. At the time this meant nothing to any of us, so we went ahead and bought the passes.

Jump ahead a few short years to advent of the Ebay era and 3 (three) sequential 25th anniversary Disney Dollars sold for $275. FOR THREE!!!!! I had had over 1000 and used them as cash.

DUH!!!

:lmao: That is brilliant! Well, you know, not brilliant, but you know what I mean, great story.

:goodvibes

What a great thing hindsight is, if only it the other way around :lmao:

Isn't it just!
This will go over most people's heads, but in 2005 i had a ticket for the (soccer) Europen Cup Final, but my boss wouldn't give me time off, although he insinuated that there would be nothing he could do if I was ill for a few days.
Being far too sensible I sold my ticket and stayed at home, and the match turned out to be one of the most famous ever

I worked at a Disney Store in PA years ago and there is a limit to the amount of Disney Dollars a person can buy at one time. For the life of me, however, I cannot remember what the amount was - I wanna say it was $500 - or at least it was a few years back.

I never got the point of disney dollors. why not just use real cash.

For those of us who are spend-aholics, buying Disney dollars makes it so that we can't spend the money in advance. Thereby allowing us to save. :)

Yes it would make more sense to put it into an interest bearing account.

But then we would be very tempted to spend it.

Maybe it is a reaction to ID theft issues......

My ID was stolen last year and I had EIGHT credit cards opened under my name in 2 days. They were a combination of store cards, Master Cards and Discover Cards. With some of the cards, the crooks then bought gift cards, which, by the time we found out about em, had already been used.

I have credit monitoring on my accounts, so found out about the problem within a couple of days, but by then they were long gone.

Maybe Disney Store is just trying to limit losses :confused3

Hmmm.....

By the time the 50th rolls around, we need to figure out how to put our 401(k)s into Disney Dollars.

OUCH!!!

Great story though!!! How long did you cry for??

Oh Kevin that story is priceless! But ouch!

As I said I wasn't upset at all just found it interesting.

As one of the previous posters mentioned if I have a $20 bill sitting an envelope Mr. Jim's might end up with it but Mr. Jim's or Domino's won't take Disney Dollars! It helps me breathe a little easier when we are there.

We live in the country and two weeks ago one of our neighbors had their home broken into and they were cleaned out. I told my husband I was most worried about the Disney Dollars if someone broke into our house. The jewelry, furniture, art, etc. would be replaced by insurance. When I tell Allstate I had $1,000 Disney Dollars stolen they would laugh me out of the office!

This is precisely the reason. Buying Disney Dollars with credit is like taking out a free cash advance on your card. The limit is either $300 or $250 (my girlfriend and I couldn't remember precisely from our TDS days). If someone has stolen a card, they could theorectically hit every Disney Store in town and buy Disney Dollars. They aren't tracked to the card, so they can be given to anyone and then used at a Disney Store or park. It's like hiding stolen cash. The same friend used to manage a couple of the hotel retail locations at WDW and she said their WDW official limit is $500. Anything else would require special approvals.
