Can you do NYC in Dec affordably....

We go every Memorial weekend and Labor day weekend. We stay at the Marriott Marquis in Time Sq. We paid $379.00 a night this last Labor Day. Came home and booked Memorial weekend 2012. $599.00 per night.
I'm hoping the price will drop.

I am going with my sisters for the first time in early December and we are staying at the Marriott Marquis :) Did you like it? We wanted to be close to the action! :goodvibes

We are seeing "On a Clear Day..." and doing the Rockefeller center and shopping. Hoping it won't be to atrociously busy as we are going during the week.

Can't wait! :goodvibes

My DH just moved to Jersey City and takes the train to Manhattan (he comes home every two weeks). New Jersey gets a bum rap, but it's really a great place! Hotels are less expensive, PATH gets you into NYC within 15 min. and there are great things to do and see in Hoboken and Jersey City too.

If you really want to stay in Manhattan, leaving your car elsewhere would be best. When we went took our 3 boys to Manhattan about 5 years ago, we really liked the Vincci Avalon - a boutique hotel. It was close to the Empire State building, offered two beds AND a sofa bed, and a "European" breakfast.

The nice thing about DH in NYC (aside from a cleaner house here :rotfl:), a good excuse to take a trip out there to visit and sightsee!

Love it there. It's right in the middle of everything. I'm sure you're going to love it too. NY is ALWAYS mad busy. But that's part of it's charm. LOL.
We're going just for the day on Dec 19TH to see Hugh Jackman. It will be the first time I'm in NY around the Holidays. Hope you enjoy your trip.

We're paying $88/night for a Marriott in Princeton, NJ and spending our days in NYC. We'll take a train up to the city which doesn't take long. I love NYC in the Winter and can't wait to see the decorated windows and ice rink. I get good chills just thinking about our upcoming trip.

I like taking the train because we always stop at Macys to use their bathrooms, once we exit Penn Station. Macys at Christmas is magical, LOL. Seriously, I love it a lot.

Anyway, you don't have to stay in NYC to enjoy NY.

Just want to mention that the train fairs have increased dramatical over the past year or two and are rediculous now. I actually take it from New Brunswick, but just priced it out from Princeton. It's $33 roundtrip from princeton to penn station/NY per adult, and $15 per child under 11. Kids 11 and older have to pay the adult fare.

We would always take the train into the city and it was awesome, but they've priced us out since we have two teen boys.
