Can you customize order at counter service locations?

I know this sounds like a silly question but can you customize orders at counter service restaurants? For example, if I order at wet burrito at Cantina de San Angel in Epcot, will they leave off the lettuce and adobe sauce if I ask them to? Or is it all pre-packaged? Will they leave the jalepenos and tomatoes off the nachos?

Thanks for any info.

I think it just varies by restaurant. When we stopped at the Cantina on our 'snack and drink around the world tour' (LOL), we ordered nachos in the beer line on the side and they said no substitutions at that counter - it was like it's packaged. But I think by the way he said that that they do make changes if you order at the real counter and not the beer line. A lot are prepackaged, just like McDonalds, but you can still request and wait for a special order.

So, depending upon how they get the food, you'll have to just ask.

(at Panera Bread the chain restaurant, you can make changes to all but the panini's because of how they receive them predone and frozen - so I just know I have to pick off tomato's on the panini's there. I think the same is true for the counter service at WDW - just depends on the food and how it comes packaged to them)

Most of the CS locations will customize as there is very little which is actually pre-packaged from outside the location. Even if items are prepackaged, such as the salads as the Sunshine Seasons Food Fair, since they make the salads there I can get wone customized.

I think it may depend on the CM you get when you're placing your order.

I tried to exchange a side item at Flame Tree and was told no. (I think I wanted to switch beans for corn) However, I was able get rice instead of potatoes at Tuskers House.

You're right - this must just be a beer line thing because I've ordered nachos without beef several times in the regular Cantina line several times and have never had a problem.

I was just wondering because I'm not a big lettuce, tomato, any kind of sauce fan. I usually don't want to substitute items; I just want them to leave them off completely. I like burritos, subs, burgers, etc. with meat and cheese only. (I also don't like my foods to touch each other on the plate! :teeth: )

Thanks for the replies. It sounds like it just depends on what kind of food they are serving and who the CM is. Regardless of whether they will leave the lettuce and tomato off my food, I'm almost certain I won't starve on our trip!

A little known fact is that you don't have to order the combo at the food stands. Instead of getting a hamburger with fries and drink, for example, you can just order the hamburger seperate. If you have a few kids with you and want to split, or aren't that hungry, or two just want to share a drink and fries, you can do that. Saves a few bucks.

DS is a very picky eater and I had no trouble at the counter service places asking for one or more items to be left off.
