I can just comment on the rides since I don't have a child old enough for the mindstorms, but it looks like a good plan to me.

There were 2 mindstorms activities when we were there in summer - if you've got a lego nut he might want to sign up for both. I was a little disappointed - I know you can program mindstorms in java, but they didn't show that - just used some pre-programmed moves to move vehicles around and pick stuff up and the like, but it was fun. Looks like you've done your homework - heading there first is required.

The biggest problem with Legoland is that the lines are FOREVER. So don't be too upset if you can't get all of that done. Typical advice, do as much as you can in the morning before the crowds come, saving the interactive stuff like mindstorms or walking around miniland for later.

The 14 year old may be a bit bored.
Oh - and I found the burgers there awful. The bbq place was decent, but a bit pricey.

Thanks for the advce. So is this ride sequence reasonable if we want to get to the rides with longest lines first?

I would go for the Indiana Jones first (Lost Temple or whatever it is called). It is a slow loader, and the lines seem to get long really fast! We waited less than 10 min at park opening, but the lines were quickly an hour. We did Test track right after and waited about 15 min. There are kiddie rides right by if little one can't ride test track.

There is a lunch place (A sports theme restaurant) right by Bionicle/Test track that is fairly decent with a kids buffet and menu for adults. We usually do that area then eat around 11:30 before it gets crowded then move forward. By afternoon, the lines for the kiddie type stuff at the front are nearly nonexistant(but walk right past them at the beginning, they stop a lot of the traffic!). My DD6 did the lego cars that you drive 3 or 4 times in a row!

Getting there 45 min early might be a bit overkill too unless you can register early for something...we go in July and have never had any trouble driving right into the parking lot and there never seems to be a huge line for tickets either. You don't ride trams or anything...you will park basically right in front.

I will warn you that there is a huge water area to Legoland too...we usually totally avoid it but since you are going in April and it might be warm, you should know about it and either come prepared, or plan to avoid! There are very few changing areas near the water area, so change elsewhere in the park if you want to do it, and save it for the end of the day so you can go back to the hotel wet and change there!

Good advice. So we'll go to Indiana first. Have you gone on the Knights Tournament? I'm wondering if we should do this one first. DD5 is already 42", so she will be able to go on every ride. She is a trhill seeker too :upsidedow

About the sports restaurant, do you recall how much was the buffet? Do they have a buffet for adults too? It sounds like a good option, but we're on a low budget, since this is an 18 day trip.

Good to know we can get there later. I guess I'm thinking about DLR

Thanks

No, we haven't done the Knight's Tournament---my girls aren't that brave, so we skip it, lol. I would guess it would be 6 one way half a dozen another as they are both (that and Lost Temple) going to get long quickly due to how slow they load. Lost Temple is a scoring ride that your kids may want to do more than once (think along the lines of Toy Story Midway Mania or Buzz Lightyear) so you may still want to head there first.

The restaurant---just a kids buffet---can't remember exactly how much but maybe 7 or 8 for the kids (included make your own hot dogs, hamburgers, mac and cheese, a veggie and a fruit plus fries and the drink). The adults were menu items like sandwiches, burgers, salads, nachos etc and ranged from probably 8-$14.

If Knight's Tournament is the one where they sort of put you in a crane you can spin around, that was a huge hit with my son and his cousin ( 10-12 at the time). You could pick your level of intensity too - the more intense had shorter lines! That was probably their favorite ride, so yes, try to do it early - before you eat!

Good tip on the water section btw- it's big and fun - there's a pirate ship ride where you squirt/get squirted that's a riot. You may want a water poncho if not swimsuits for that at least. Swimsuits required for the big climbing tower which dumps huge buckets of water every few minutes.

We are going to Legoland for the 1st time in late June. Would this touring plan work for that time period as well? I appreciate the OP taking the time to make one!
