for example. My brother wants to rent points but he only needs 80 so we would still have points left over. If we then turned around and rented those 80 points from someone else (so we would have our full amount of points again) can we combine our points and the points we rent for the same stay?

does that make sense?

in other words (?)...

if you have "x" points remaining in your UY, can you rent points from another member and have them seemlessly combined into your account?

If so, no you would have to have points transfered into your account for that.
What you could do is use as many points as you can for a stay of what you have remaining, then rent to cover the rest of the nights you need for your stay.

When you rent points, the member that you rent from makes a reservation in your name. No points change hands, your account is not affected in any way. The member who made the reservation retains control of it, even if you are also a member. So no, if you rent points from another member, there's no combining of points. The other member would make a reservation with their points for part of your stay, you would make a reservation with your points for the rest of your stay. The reservations could be linked by MS, so you would (hopefully) not have to change rooms.

When you do a points transfer, the other owner places points in your account. They are then your points, indistinguishable from the other points in your account, and you could use the total number of points however you wish.
