can you check in and then leave the ship again?

We are on the Wonder San Juan - Miami repo leaving 2/7. The ship leaves port at 5pm, but our flight is scheduled to get in at 6am. So we would like to check in as early as possible (our PAT is 10:30 I think) and then leave the ship again to explore San Juan a bit. Is that possible? Has anyone done this? Or can we just drop our luggage and leave again without checking in at the same time?

Earliest you might check in is when the terminal opens for check in (at Port Canaveral it's 10:30). Once you check in, if you leave the ship, you have to go through security all over again. Don't know what the logistics are in San Juan for dropping bags, and then taking off somewhere. I know it would be difficult to do this in Port Canaveral (not really in the center of things there).

When we cruised out of San Juan the ship didn't leave until 10pm. Yes you could leave and come back. There is lots to do around the port. You should visit the forts it's about a 20 minute walk. Security was super easy. It's a US port so it's not like you have to show your passport 5 times(like Vancouver) before you get on the ship. Much less crowed than Port Canaveral and much easier.
