I'm "watching" I Love Lucy and they're on their way to Florida. Lucy and Ethel have to change a tire.:)

I could change one if I really, really, really had to. But I've never had to.;) I've had about 20-30 flats in my life, and I've never had to change the first one.:o The last one I had, I tried, but I had a majorly sprung arm and 2 very nice people stopped to help me.:) One let me use her cell phone (I didn't have one at the time), the other one changed the flat for me.:) I love nice people.:)

I'd rather not. I have an emergency 800 road service I paid extra for when I bought the car. I believe I'd invoke that privilege.

No and I would be in BIG trouble if I got one too...I wouldn't have a CLUE what to do. Even if I did have my cell phone with me, I wouldn't know who to call. I'd just call DH and say, "HELP ME"

Nup, I can't do it. I've been at DH to show the boys how to do it, so they can do it for me if we are stuck on the side of the road with a flat, but so far no go....:(

I can't even drive a car.

Yup!! :)

the trick is;
do ya need to use a lug wrench and/or a jack to do it!!

;) :teeth:

Yep, I can change one, I think it's important to know how to do things like that. I've never had to change a flat because there has always been a man around who was nice enough to do it for me but I made sure my brother showed me how to do all that car stuff. :)

The trick is to jump on the lug wrench after you've put on the spare to tighten the nuts. :)

Easy -- call AAA ;) That's what I pay them for ;)

Seriously, no I don't think I could. Not without help.

Yes. I took a self defense for women class in college, and we had to learn that (and other basic care care stuff) in that class.

I also jump on the lug wrench like Mary Jo. Another tip is to always tell the guys to put the lug nuts on by hand when you have your tires rotated or taken off for whatever reason. If they use the machine, you'll never get them off by hand when you need to. Some of them will tell you that it's impossible to get them on tight enough without the machine, but then you can make them feel like wimps when you tell them that you were able to do it. :)

I did have to change my tire once. The car was in the driveway and got a flat overnight. I put the doughnut on and took it to the tire store all by myself.

Uhhhhhhhhhhh, no. :o

One time my friends and I got a flat on the way to Virginia Beach. From watching my boyfriend change a tire, I knew you had to pop the hub cap off in order to get to the lug nuts. So anyway, someone figured out how to work the jack and I tried to pop the hub cap. Imagine how I felt when I realized there wasn't a hub cap and I was trying to pry the rim off the tire for at least 5 minutes. :o  :o

I haven't tried since and I don't intend to ever try again. :teeth: I now have AAA. :p

Kermit, when I had my last flat, the guy that changed the tire for me really had a hard time because my SO rotates our tires for us using an air wrench. He said the air wrench was why, with my sprained arm, I felt like I was wrenching my arm out of it's socket. It took him about 15 minutes longer than what he thought it would just because the lub nuts were too tight. I think I could change one if I had to though (or atleast die or cry trying;) ).

LOL! My SO knows I'm a wimp.;) He still uses the air wrench.

...and I KNEW!!!

Oh dear Lucy...I could use a second HELPing....

I think I can...but if all else fails, kick the hubcap and yell alot in Spanish.:)

Yep, I can do it. Actually, I've done it a number of times. Now I want one of the lug nut guns like they have in car racing. That'll really make it faster! :p

Hi Shannon!

I know how to do it, but I always seem to have a bunch of guys in the car that want to show off. So I let them :)

I also know how to jump a car too... Done that too many times...

Yes, I can... and I did it with my other friend in the rain...

Noithing like two women in the rain at 10 at night in a gas station trying to figure it out...

Nope. But I do know how to us the phone book on my cell phone to dial roadside assistance.

I like to see other people helping out and have waited several times while DH helped someone change a tire or what not. Especially when it's a woman with a little child/children.

I don't think it's that so much as not wanting to get that look for hanging out while you change the tire.

Seriously though, how can anyone not know how to change one?

The jack kit usually shows you exactly how to do it. Granted some of the nuts may require a bit of force, but I've always used my foot to put my body weight behind it & it will go like in a jif. As long as you remember "righty-tighty; lefty-loosey", you'll be fine. :)
