Sorry if this has been asked before, i was wondering if you can rent a deluxe room as opposed to a studio or villa. we are a family of five and I think it would be more economical to rent a room instead of a two bedroom villa?
Thanks for any input offered.

You COULD rent points for a regular room, but you would not want to. It is cheaper fo you to pay cash. The best use of points is at DVC resorts. A studio at OKW right now takes 11 points for about $110 per night. To pay cash that room is about $250. Now, you want to stay at Caribbean, let's say. Point charge is about 40, which is about $400 per night. You can get an AP rate for about $100 in cash. :confused3

Points will save money at a DVC resort. Points do not save money if you stay in a WDW resort (that is not DVC).

I think it's cheaper to rent points and stay in a studio at the corresponding DVC resort than it is to stay at WL, BC, BW hotels.

Point value seasons are not the same as the other WDW resorts. They go up and down at different times of year.

Point values are always higher on Fri and Sat. So check into cash prices for those nights.

The other thing that hasn't been mentioned yet is that DVC members can only use pts for the DVC portion of the resorts that are attatched to regular deluxe resorts -- as in -- we can book points at the BCV's but not at the regular portion of the BC or VWL but not at the regular portion of the WL, same goes for BWV's. So if you are inquiring about renting pts for a regular room at say BC instead of for a 2bdrm at BCV's ...that is not able to be done anyhow. We can however spend the points for the non attatched deluxe WDW resorts though such as GF,Poly,YC...etc. But as mentioned, it would be less expensive to just book those resorts via CRO.

Just some more things to keep in mind ;)

If you are renting points, you won't save money if you stay out of a DVC resort. The average rate for rent is $10, a pool view room in AKL for example will cost you $290 renting on a weekday and $520 on a weekend, whereas the rack rate is only $250 (tax included). If you can get a discounted rate, you of course are much better off.
Now, if you are a DVC member the story is different since your cost per point is much less. In my case, the cost per point is less than $6 (adding up annual dues + the portion of the up front investment for the year). So the same room at 29 points on weekday will cost me a little less than 174. In my case, unless there is a great discount for the same room that will put my cost under $174 I will use my points. I will most certainly use the rack or discounted rate for weekend stays out of a DVC resort.
