So today I went grocery shopping, and my daughter came along....She wanted to hop in the basket, so I said sure, and then I hit a bump :headache: ..I felt the carriage going forward, so I pulled back with all my force (not much) so my DD8 did not fall on her head on the sidewalk, as we were still in the lot.... :sad2: In the meantime the carriage wacked me on one thigh, and the other shin..I mean wacked me with tons of weight....

I did my groceries, and came home crying..I can walk, it is swollen, and I swear I see the bone sticking out but DH says it is just a bruise :sad1: ..It hurts really badly, and I wondered if anyone has any clues or compassion for me..

Thanks

I'm sure it's possible to break it...it's a bone.

I have a ton of compassion for you. Several years ago I was walking thru the grocery store not really paying attention. I walked smack into one of the metal U-boats with my shin. I had to sit on the floor I was in such pain...I though I might pass out. My shin had a huge lump and nasty ugly bruise for weeks. Pretty embarrassing.

Put some ice on it and if it still bothers you in the morning, maybe get it x-rayed.

Thank you...OOOOH that sounds very painful. It was embarassing as well, I had to go off in a corner, and spent the first part of shopping limping like nuts.....I hope it is not bad in the AM, as I have so many messages to do....

Thanks for the compassion..

 Get an X-ray in the morning. I know what that feels like; when I was about 12 I decided to try playing ice hockey like my dad and brothers did (I hated figure skating), and so dad gave me some old gear and took me out to the local Skate 'n' Shoot session. Well, the shin pads were short and didn't meet the skates so there was a 2 inch gap of unprotected shin. Right at the end when everyone was going off the ice I was skating toward the boards to exit the ice and this big hulking dude took a slapshot... you guessed it, it ricocheted off the boards and hit me right in the unprotected area of the shin. Of course I fell down and tried my hardest not to cry, but it hurt SO badly. I couldn't walk right for 2 weeks and my shin was all black. So yes, I have much compassion for you.

trust me, if you have a compound fracture, (bone breaking through the skin) you would know it without any doubt. It's possible that you could have caused something like a hairline fracture, but if you totally broke your tibia I doubt you would be able to walk.

Why not just go and get it checked out, to be sure? Hope you feel better soon. I would definitely take some ibuprofen to reduce the swelling if I were you. It may make a big difference.

Ouch I hurt in sympathy with you. I can't tell you how many times I have banged that same spot on my dishwasher while the door is down.

Sorry to hear about your leg! Any whack on the shin hurts like hell, doesn't it? When I was a kid, I had a bed that had a wooden chest of drawers built into it (like the bed rested on top of it) and though I slept on the same bed for 5 or 6 years, I smacked my shins on it nearly every day when I got in bed. My legs were black and blue for years! :sad2:

Seriously, though, in addition to the ice you might keep it elevated as much as you can if that doesn't hurt any to try to keep swelling down somewhat, and if it's bothering you in the a.m., I'd definitely see a dr. Hope it feels better soon!

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: I am in more pain thinking of you....Thanks for the compassion, I am being a PMS baby tonight..

Thank you..I thought that I would definitely know if it were compound..I think that I was REALLY having a bad day to begin with, KWIM? I have an autoimmune disorder, and was having a flare up day, so perhaps the pain is more severe due to that...

I will see how I am in the morning...I think it will be better...I see several bruises on each leg, just that the right side (thigh) has more meat than the shin..

Again thanks to all :grouphug:

Oh man, there is no padding between shin bones and skin. And when it gets hit by something solid it hurts. Elevate it and ice it, on and off.

Hope it feels better soon.

I hope your leg is feeling better. I fell and wacked my shin when I was a teen and it hurt like hell for a few days. Turns out I had a chip fracture. You may want to get it checked out just to make sure it's ok.

Hope youre feeling better today! That sounds really painful!

It is possible to break off splinters of bone,so that you can actually feel a depression in the bone and the loose pieces. My sister had that happen to her shin in a car accident

Hi, and thanks to you all for asking today..

It is SORE like heck, and swollen...I don't see a bruise :confused3 ....I don't know how that is, but it is....The skin is cut, and it is swollen as I stated..

I did not go in to see about it, I think it is ok....I have another child I am watching today, along with my own 2, and it was the Kids dental appointments..Got all that done, and have football tonight, dh working overtime...

So, all in all I can complain, as I am a baby ;) , but I think nothing is broken, THANK GOD...

Have a great day everyone :flower3:
