Can you book two different resorts for same night?

We're taking the family to Disney World later this year. Through UT, I have reserved 4 rooms, 2 nights each, at ASSports preceding a 5 night DVC stay (not yet booked). I really love POP but, since I'm booking 4 rooms, I went with the less expensive resort. There is a possibility that I will have us stay 1 night at POP followed by 6 nights using DVC. When I made the 4 separate reservations, I had to name all the people who would be staying in each room (and kids' ages).

My question is, since the UT reservations are refundable up to a few days before check-in, can I reserve 1 night at POP in case we decide to do that and then cancel the rooms I don't want? Will the system allow the same people to have two different reservations for the same night?

Thanks!

Yes you can have two reservations at the same time, I do it all the time while I make up my mind or while looking for the best deal. You need to cancel one by time of stay, the same person can’t actually be in two rooms at the same time. Depending on when you cancel there might be a fee. I think it is currently 5 days.

Thanks so much for the quick reply!

wow this used to not be a thing...if the same people had reservations for two resorts, or even two rooms at the same resort they risked losing one or both of them

I think they should go back to the old way. there are so many people waiting for a room to open up so they can make ONE reservation, especially when there is a discount. I wonder how many rooms are tied up this way...

FYI the cancellation deadline for room-only reservations is now 8 days (presumably to avoid cancellations after booking LLMP at 7 days out).
Are you referring to Disney and/or UT? Thanks for letting me know!!
I had to make a one night reservation for POP on Disney's website because UT was sold out after my other 3 rooms were booked. I have not added any reservation to MDE but I guess the Disney reservation is already on there since I picked the guests from my friends and family.

I agree with you. However, when I made my reservations on UT, I had to put the names of the guests on each reservation. So, there is not a duplicate with the 4 rooms I booked at ASSports. However, the one night I booked at POP for 4 rooms has the same people as the 2 nights at ASSp.
I will cancel the POP if I have to cancel as soon as possible. I think having the 2 nights before our stay is preferable...

Disney's room only cancellation window is now 8 days.
Thank you. I will be cancelling one of the bookings as soon as possible after discussing with my family.

***It looks like it's 8 days PRIOR to arrival, not after making the reservation, like I thought you meant.

For Disney it is 8 days for a Room Only reservation; for UT, it is apparently 7 days. (See screenshots.)

Thank you. I guess I will cancel the POP reservations. But what about UT? If I don't add the ASSp to my MDE until closer to check in, can I still get a refund if the trip is cancelled for some reason?

That would depend on UT's cancellation policy. for WDW it's no problem that far out.
