Can you believe this?

Okay I have had my trip "home" planned for 9 months. It was to be me, DF, his parents, sister, and her two children. Well I saw his sister last night at a store. We got to talking and she said "Did mom call you? She doesn't think that they are going because she can't ride in a car for more than two hours." WHAT!!! I understand she had surgery the end of January but she just deceided that she can't go now 3 weeks before we leave.
What was she going to do wait until the day we left to tell us?
I told DF never again.
The thing that makes me really mad is that now we are stuck. We planned it for around Easter for them. I could have saved a ton of points(DVC) and stayed longer if they weren't going at that time. To late now. I already have my vacation at work put in and can't change it this late.
How am I to handle this? Because of this one little 7 day vacaction I used up two years of my points(only have 150) and I won't be able to go in January like I wanted because he wanted to take his family and they cancel on me.
Sorry I had to vent.

Tinkerbee - I assume you are in a 2-bedroom. It's a long shot but call dvc and see if they can downgrade you to a 1br or a studio anywhere. If so, if some of your days are outside the 30 day timeframe you may be able to still bank them. If all your days are within the 30 day timeframe you can attempt to rent them. Otherwise enjoy your vacation and learn from experience.

Post this ASAP on the DVC Board. They might have suggestions, too, like the good ones from one_cat.

Are you absolutely sure you can't re-schedule for May? You'd of course have your points go into holding, but May is less than two months out, so you'd be able to change the reservation right away.... Or, try changing to a 1 bedroom & put the other points into holding (just means you make your next ressie with 2 months out, which is definitely doable), or why not stay the Sunday through Friday, maybe stay off-site for the other two nights to save the points & again, put those points into holding & use them before the end of your use year....

I'd be absolutely MAD if I were you & this happened... another good reason NOT to invite family!!

That really stinks. It is just these types of situations that make me leery of traveling with anyone else. For some reason, DH's entire family (about 20 people) have proclaimed they want to go to Disney with us next year . I have no idea how to get out of it! Good luck and I hope you can salvage some of your points.

I called just a minute ago and we are going to stay at the Fort Wilderness Cabins for 8 days. Atleast I get an extra day. We couldn't use a one bedroom or studio because 5 of us are going. I'm just upset because I knew I'd have to get a 2 bedroom with 5 of us going but because of his parents we had to go around Easter. Other wise we would have went in January and saved us points. I couldn't rebook it for any other month because our use year is September and DF is starting a new job at the end of May so he wouldn't have been able to go if I changed it now. So we will stay at the cabins even though I will miss that two-bedroom. Oh well now I can say I stayed at another Disney resort.
