The cruise the week prior to Christmas is sold out and the cruise the week of Christmas doesn't have much left... :sad2:

And have you guys seen the premium they are getting for the cruises at Christmas... :sad2:

We have been on 4 cruises now... but 8 grand for 3 of us.. 2 adults and 1 child wow....

I can't believe that there are no Categories 1, 2, or 3 for the Christmas cruise of '06. there were only a few category 4s as well. we decided to do 2 category 6s, but still. It was really expessive from what the Donna told my mom. (Donna on the Magic). Christmas is premium time to go, even with the risky weather.

Yes, we originally wanted to book the Dec. 17 cruise and checked into it around mid-January and it was already sold out. I couldn't believe it! I guess a lot of schools are getting out early for Christmas break.

Based on my experience, Categories 1,2, and 3 are ALWAYS booked, regardless of what time of year you're trying to get.

I had checked into being on the Magic for New Year's and it was over $10,000 for the five of us in a Cat 6 and a Cat11. I just can't justify spending that when my 10 night cruise out of London on Princess in an inside and a mini-suite is running just a bit more than that for the 5 of us.

For a category 6 Navigators verandah... it was 8160... with flights....

Our last time we went were were like cat 3 or 4 and it was only 5000 roughly..

I was shocked at how many people want to cruise over Christmas... Thought we were the only stange ones...

My $10,000 quote was without airfare, cruise alone!

Has anyone ever traveled on another cruise line?

My folks are cruise afficiendos and they say Royal Carribean is a nice cruise line...

What do you guys think?

Who else would you compare to Disney?

Or do you think that there will be some slots become available..

slots might become available. But Celebrity is the best compaired to DCL. I have never been on them, but that is what my step-dad tells me.

Well, I booked our 12/17 cruise in October & managed to snag a SPH room. It was 3100 for the four of us. By January the price had gone up to 4600 on the site. We decided to cancel & change to the Eastern the week before which was 600 cheaper. You may want to keep checking. Someone else canceled just yesterday.

Not every line has Mickey at the helm, but they are well worth checking out! You could take a stuffed Mickey for your fix while knowing you're saving a ton of money. Each line seems to lean toward its own personality. Depending on what is most important to you, check out RCI, Celebrity, and Princess as already mentioned. Another line I've enjoyed, not already mentioned in this thread is NCL. Cannot speak from experience on Carnival but have heard real mixed reviews, some suggesting that their newer ships may be a good choice but not their older ships.

Is this the 4 day that leaves on the 18th of Dec.? I hope not, we have a friend that was hoping to book a trip with us(luckily ours is already booked!).

I've toyed with the idea of a Christmas week cruise in the past, but have largely abandoned the idea now. #1 is the cost--Xmas week must be the ultimate in peak demand. #2 is missing the opportunity to get together w/ extended family--we're the only cruise junkies on either side of the family, except my retired mother, who is Orthodox when it comes to her HAL only vow (good, I hear the oxygen tanks and walkers are mandatory anyway so not much fun on board with the fossils anyway). #3 is weather--would have to go pretty far south or east to get good weather--we're about done with January cruising, too. #4 is the birthday factor--we're both xmas week birthdays, like to celebrate that w/ family, too. #5--The cost again! DW worries about the cost when we cruise during off-peak with the kids in school, let alone double the price over Xmas week.

Besides, next year Chanukah falls late in the year and I'm not sure Menorahs are allowed in staterooms!!

We booked 2 cabins cat 6... with an optional upgrade if it comes available. :cool1:

We are booked on the 4 day Dec 29, 2005 - Jan 2 2006. We booked last Sept or maybe August - it was right after the dates came out. We are doing an extended land (Arriving Dec 22). Yes, it is very expensive around the holidays - we are only doing it beacuse iour DD's 10th birthday, DH's 42nd Birthday, and our 20th wedding anniversary. They fall between Dec 6 and Jan 3. All three of us are going on the trip. :grouphug:

It will be the first time in 20 years I have not done Christmas day with the extended family. We decided that we always wanted a cruise and this has been in the planning stages for several years.

My DH is going to miss his annual ski trip (usually Dec 27 - Jan 2) and DD will miss one day of school - since we are on the "old" plan, I had to add the extra days before the 31 Dec so I didn't know the school schedule for next year at the time. We had toyed with the idea of a spilt stay (Poly/Beach Club) but that was too expensive (restarting tickets, rack rate at the poly, etc).

Our trip (without airfare or transfers) is costing about $8,000. We are in a cat 6 on the Wonder and are staying at the Beach Club for the Land Portion (which also includes Ultimate Park Hopper Tickets).

I have already booked Airfare for approx $700.

The cruise the week before Christmas that has been sold out for the past couple months is the 12/17 Western. As people cancel rooms open up. The plan for us was to spend DH's birthday in MK after cruising. It's Christmas Day and would be a special celebration but reading about the crowds at MK on that day & the following week, well, we changed our mind. Thankfully, we don't have any obligations for holidays. In fact the rule at our home is we stay home Christmas Eve & Day. If anyone wants to come visit, they are welcome on 12/26 or we can drive somewhere that day.

I just got my deposit back for the 12/17 cruise. I decided to go with the 1/14/06 and save $900 and not be flying home on Christmas Eve. I had a catagory 9 if anyone is looking.

Although I love cruising with DCL, I've finally decided that it is just too expensive. I'm booked on a Carnival Cruise for next Thanksgiving. There are several other cruise lines that will obviously be different than DCL but are also very good. If you go to www.cruisecritic.com , there is wonderful info that can help you research other ships (just because a ship belongs to RCL or Carnival or any of the other lines doesn't mean all of the ships in a line are the same. You need to research the cruise line and the individual ships!).
