Can you be a Grand Gathering with DVC?

Thinking long range to our big trip in 2012. We will have 9 people at least - definitely enough for a Grand Gathering. BUT, we'll be using points to stay in a grand villa. Can we still do the special Grand Gathering events?

Yes you can be a grand gathering when staying on DVC points. When you make your reservation with DVC member services, let them know you also want a "grand gathering number". They will connect you to the right person who will issue the number. After that you can call the "grand gathering" tour / event number and they will help you with setting up the events you want.

We are doing a DVC this summer and are registered as a grand gathering.

What special events do you have access to with this service? We will have 9 people in our group in May to celebrate our son's college graduation.

Thanks so much! That's exactly what I needed!

Currently, they have 3 different options to choose from. (At least that was what I was told by the CM when I was booking a GG for a client.)

There's the Safari Dinner at Animal Kingdom, which is the last safari ride of the day (so they can linger in there with the animals longer), dinner at Tusker House, and then they bring animals out for you to see and learn about. That one is 2TS credits.

The next is an Illuminations Dinner and Dessert - you get dinner and dessert featuring foods from around World Showcase, followed by priority seating for Illuminations. That one is also 2TS credits.

The last one is a character breakfast at Tony's Town Square (which only serves breakfast to GG groups.) This is 1 TS credit.

They all don't happen everyday - I think it's twice a week for each. I would call up MS and ask for the GG line and see what they could set up for you if you're interested.

I hope I don't sound silly... What is a Grand Gathering?

At Disney, a Grand Gathering is a party of 8 or more. It allows you to sign up for the special activities we were just talking about and if you are booking cash rooms, it allows your rooms to all be together.

It's not easy but you can even mix non-dvc reservations and dvc reservations for a Grand Gathering.

we did this in 2004 and it was great...food from 9 countries i think and then taken to an area for coffe, other drinks and dessert

We did Tony's Town Square for breakfast last year as a Grand Gathering - fabulous! Comfortable setting and characters spend a lot of time with you - very unrushed.

I have a question, has anyone done the Grand Gathering Safari? What was your experience of it? Was it worth the cost?

On a related note....

Now that DVC is allowing the booking of dining plans for partial stays, my dad pointed out that one night on the DxDDP is only $19 more (adult) than the cost of the Illuminations Dinner. Since he wanted to do that event anyway, he figured that it would be a better "deal" to just add the DxDDP for a night. That way, for only $19 more, we get our mugs, two snacks AND another meal!

Just some food for thought...

You sure can. We have been lucky enough to try them and we were DVC members staying on points.
