Hi all, we have a villa off site rented for end of august, we want to park hop in disney, can we use the buses or do we need to prove we are staying on site? we will have park hopping tickets, is this ok? claire

I just found this on the WDW site:

What is the best way to get around within Walt Disney World Resort?

There are many convenient modes of transportation within Walt Disney World Resort, including Bus, Boat and Monorail.

It doesn't say Resort guest only? Howver I think I have read that somewhere else. I personally cannot imagine why you couldn't use the transport however wouldn't it be so much quicker to drive?

Hang on a sec.... here is something else I found.....

Complimentary Resort Transportation

Complimentary transportation throughout Walt Disney World Resort—including transportation to and from Disney Theme Parks and Disney Water Parks—is available to Guests of select Walt Disney World Resort hotels.

Avoid the hassle of driving and parking, and save time and money with complimentary transportation throughout Walt Disney World Resort.

Take in the sights from an air-conditioned bus, soar high in the sky aboard our world-famous monorail, or embark on a relaxing boat ride—and take advantage of door-to-door service that delivers you from your Resort hotel to all Theme Park gates and throughout Walt Disney World Resort.

Complimentary transportation is available one hour prior to Disney Theme Park opening time up to one hour after Disney Theme Park closing time. Additionally, buses operate until 2:00 a.m. from the Downtown Disney Area. Certain areas of Walt Disney World Resort are also connected by well-lit, paved, low-grade walking paths.

Officially you can enterpret as for WDW resort guests only but for practical purposes anyone can use the service, it's not like they ask to see your KttWC when you board or anything.

However, if you have a rental car then for all the resorts apart from MK it's usually quicker to use it anyway, and you only pay for parking once a day, your parking stub is valid at all the parks for that day.

I am 99.99% sure that you can use the transport to 'hop' as long as you have a ticket which allows hopping. Makes sense if you think about it - why would Disney make you drive from one park to another when you have already paid for and parked your car for the day.

Information at Mouseplanet confirms this.

I think you're right Joh.

Mind you, I've used the Disney transport service extensively over many years and I've never once been asked for any proof I was staying on-site.

This question pops up periodically and the consensus has always been that, officially, anyone can use the transportation, except those with single day passes (and presumably those with no passes at all). From a practical point of view, though, Disney has neither the means nor the inclination to police it.

disneys officil line is that as long as you have a valid park ticket you can use the buses.its on the back of them even if non park hoppers as they want your custom at DTD and hotel resturents

No shocks there ;)

I've never been asked to provide any proof of staying onsite - or to show our Disney tickets either for that matter.

I've only been asked to show my key when getting the monorail for morning EMH at Magic Kingdom.

Yes. Though if you have a rental car it is easier to just drive. Save the parking reciept and show it at the next park and you would not have to pay again.

That depends. When staying onsite, we use all the transportation options available. Sometimes it's quicker and easier to drive. We like an alcoholic beverage (or three ;)), so that often dictates. Don't forget that the buses drop you right outside the MK. Driving means you'll park at the TTC and will then need to get the monorail or ferry to the gate.

Always thought the car was to get the beers didn't realise you can drive to the parks:drinking1;)

In all the times I've been to WDW, the only time I've EVER been asked to show my KttW card was once, on my first visit.

we were asked once when we were boarding for a resort bus years ago around 96/97

Thanks for the info, we will probably drive but it's good to know about the buses, I've always been curious but didn't know the answer as we have never stayed on site :)
