Can we use Stormalong Pool if Visiting?

When DH and I stayed at BCV in July, he showed his resort ID and asked for a wrist band for himself and me. The CM said she needed to see my ID also (which I had to go back to the room to get). We saw other people also being asked to show a RESORT ID for EACH PERSON (and not just by that CM).

Same thing last August. The only one we didn't need an ID for was the one year old. We did need one for the four year old. And unless the CP is now taking on 50 year olds...

Three things....While Disney says it doesn't allow pool-hopping to SAB, it really does since ID's aren't checked each and every time. Is this right?? No, it's just the way it is. I hated that the pool at the Polynesian was so crowded with people that weren't staying there. I knew this since they put their street clothes on and were overheard to say..'let's get back to the car and head over to MGM now'. Ahh well.

2. Last Dec my dd and were doing some resort hopping. We stopped off at YC/BC. Found that somehow we had wandered into the pool area. As was said before, I started to get really nervous about being there. But, no one batted an eyelash. Maybe since it was Dec. and we had street clothes on. don't know.

3. The first time we ever visited WDW we were under the assumption that only people staying at a particular resort were supposed to be wandering around them! I had not found these boards yet so I didn't know any better. We didn't even get off the monorail to check out the Polynesian resort, much less try to get into a pool area!! Man, talk about dopey

So, I guess that if someone checks with a CM and is told that they can use a certain pool, and they don't have an ID, then that's it. Now, if I can't find a place to sit down at the pool where I am staying, then that's a different story. I would like to think that especially during the busy times of year the CMs would check resort IDs. Hopefully that will be the case at BWV this summer.

Now if an employee of the owner decides to disregard the rule, this shouldn't be construed as the owner giving permission in an attempt to justify the action. The employee was simply wrong in allowing this.

Again, I say that my belief is that pool hopping is not in the best interest of Disney and it's guests.

But,
if a Disney "employee" decides to "break" the rules as he/she sees fit, and you think that's wrong, I guess someone should stop them from giving out free surprise upgrades at the resorts. After all, IO had to PAY for my savannah view, so why should you get it for free. The rules state that you must pay for what you get, no?

My point is that CMs make exceptions to all rules at Disney, and I'm sure the Disney "owners" have given them this permission to use at their reasonable discretion. That's what Disney Magic is. They are not breaking a rule if they break a rule.

If someone asks permission, and the CM says ok, let it be.

The CM that checked our IDs was about 40; unless she was much younger than she looked, I don't think she was in the CP!

Perhaps...when Disney decided to add-on & build all the VILLA's (DVC) for these resorts (WL, BC&YC, BW, etc)...they SHOULD have designed/built a "SPECIAL PRIVATE DVC POOL" just for these visitors/guests! The MAIN pools, such as SAB originally built for the MAIN resort...could remain, for the use of the main RESORT guests (ONLY)! Maybe this would prevent the overcrowding many guests & DVC owners continually fuss about (?). :teeth:

When i was a CPer there was an older lady that lived right across from me. She was a grandmother and was a CPer.

Hmmm... what a great idea. Instead they could charge the pool crashers the fee that is paid by DVC members to maintain and staff the pools and pool areas. DVC members aren't getting pool hopping and the use of the pools for free. We're paying for these benefits. A significant amount of our Maintainance Fee goes to pay for the main feature pool. Now, as far as pool hopping to pools where you are not staying, this is already being curtailed during busy periods. There are many rumors that it will be completely eliminated after the pool at OKW receives a slide.

BTW... we DO have our own "Special Private DVC Pools" - those are the Quiet Pools which are often crashed too.

In reality, I could care less where you swim. As far as I'm concerned, if you want to swim at a pool, ask for permission (which is exactly what DVC members are required to do when poolhopping). If it's granted, great. If it's not, then swim elsewhere. If you choose to find a way around the system, and it works with your personal moral code, good for you. But, just as some on this thread are complaining that it's full of "self-appointed pool police", it also seems to have it's share of people who are looking to justify their decision to try to get around the rules.

Edited to add: I also have the same problem with certain people worrying so much about other people's guests. Aren't there bigger things out there to worry about??? If the CMs say it's okay, learn to live with it. JMHO, YMMV

IMHO if you are bringing guests to a pool, you should volunteer to give up your chair/spot to someone who can't find a seat. By bringing in a guest you are contributing to an overcrowding problem, therefore you should make every effort to help solve the situation as well.

ducklite...if you are building a house in Orlando, why is this subject such a sore spot to you? You won't be using the WDW pools in the future, either.

;)

I'll have to admit my stupidity here... I've been to Disney dozens of times since the late 1970s and never knew until today that I couldn't visit pools at other resorts (except SAB and AKL, those I knew). I assumed, because I saw nothing to the contrary, that if I was a Disney hotel guest that I could use Disney hotel pools. In 25 years I have never been asked for ID, I have visited almost all of the pools, and relaxed on their deck chairs.

If you read the little newsletter that you are given at CHECK IN, you will notice there is a blurb that says that swimming in the resort pool is limited to the guests STAYING at the resort. No pool hopping allowed. (DVC members excluded and we can NOT pool hop to SAB or AK pool unless we are registered guests there)

HAPPY St. PATTY'S DAY to YOU! :goodvibes:

Thought I'd share my recent experience at SAB. We were staying at the Beach Club Villas during a slow week in late Feb. and we had to show a room ID for everyone in our party every time we entered the pool area that week. Not sure if they're always that strict.

I would prepare the kids ahead of time that you may not get to swim at SAB--it is a hard thing to do while you're standing there staring at the pool.

The OP's question was answered along time ago - and this is way OT.
