Can we use Interval International to rent?

Can we rent other TS through Interval International being a DVC member or only do exchanges - if so where can we get more info

Just researching other TS and I admit I don't know enough about how to rent through them but if we could sounds like you can get some good cash prices - this could be a good way to check out some other TS resorts without laying down a great deal of cash - thanks in advance for your comments

I think RCI allows this too....I mean look out there and if they have "excess inventory" or something like that they might offer to members to "rent" or "buy" a getaway that particular week for a reasonable price ($600-$800). Sorry if I'm not articulating this well.

I thought this was recently answered on a different thread ... but perhaps it was over on TUG ...? No, DVC members do not have access to II's rental "Getaway" inventory.

Keep "direct, individual membership to II" on your wish list for the other timeshare you are researching? (We enjoy having "a little DVC" along with other vacation products -- it is great to have options!)

ii's rental getaway are that great of a deal.

the dvc studio ssr is over a $1,000 almost $2,000 - $1,989 for a week.

now rci last minute are still great deals. that is when they have them at a place you want to go too.

now the marriott vary in price from $579 to $794 - 2-bedrooms.

the $199 i haven't seen this year.

with RCI last minute - $199 studio, $219 1-bedroom, $249 2-bedroom.

A few months ago on that RCI/Wyndham site, I actually saw some Bluegreen Big Cedar Wilderness Club 1 bedrooms for spring break. They were only about $400 a week. I was tempted to book one for that price.

Unfortunately, only individual members of II can rent II's "Getaways" -- DVC owners have a corporate membership, which does not include access to getaways.

Condosdirect rents out surplus II inventory, but not the really high-end resorts such as Marriotts. Basically, they have a portion of the II Getaways inventory; II has everything that Condosdirect has (I think), plus the higher end stuff. Also, I believe that the prices on Condosdirect are higher than the II Getaways prices.

I was just trying to compare the Condosdirect and II Getaways prices, but the Condosdirect search engine kept crashing. That's proof that they're run by II!

It's possible to buy timeshares that are not very expensive as a way to trade into other timeshares and to have access to II's or RCI's rental inventory. There are a number of decent timeshares out there for under $1000.

The "trick" is being able to travel off season. If you can travel when the kids are in school, you can snag some good deals. Also, definitely don't rule out Redweek and just rent what you want from an owner.

As mentioned, keep in mind that as a DVC owner you are not eligible for a personal membership in II and therefore cannot use their getaways program.

If you purchase some other timeshares, such as Marriott, then you can have an individual II membership. I believe the current dues are about $90/year for the standard membership, and a little higher for the gold membership.

FWIW, II offers various membership deals to different timeshare communities. As a Worldmark owner, I pay $84 for a 2yr II membership renewal.
