I was so disappointed!!! I was asking some other people who had been. Did anyone else get the bending effect in some of the scenes? Like the Eiffel Tower? The pyramids? I'm guessing it might depend on where you sit but things were bending. Looked like they had melted. It was so sad. Also CGI? Really???!? They used CGI instead of real videos?

I am so sad about all this. Soarin was one of my favorite rides. Now it's kind of a joke. I mean some of it was ok. Just with the bending effects and no real video I feel duped. I probably won't ever make a FP for this again. :guilty:

Anyone feel the same? Anyone still love it just as much who might be able to share a different perspective?

I've heard it does that. We went on it twice on our last trip but say in the middle both times. I thought the old film was better and more interesting. I miss the orange smells. I will likely still ride it but it is not a must do ride for me anymore.

We were sitting on the top left. There was a severe warp look.

First time we were in the front on the left and yes the bending of the structures was bad, especially the Taj Mahal. I did enjoy the ride but the warping really took away from the overall experience.

The next time we were in the middle and it wasn't noticeable.

I had never been on the old one, but my mom and I rode it together and we both thought it was fantastic. We knew nothing about it going in and were blown away. I went on it three times total and sat in a different place each time. There is warping when you sit on the sides, but not in the middle. I'm not sure how they could avoid that without making the screen a few times bigger.

I actually preferred the sides, even with the warping, because the center row is slightly behind the other two and I noticed the people a lot more in the center.

as an International visitor, I loved it. I think its great how they show places that have inspired Disney, such as the real Matterhorn and
Neuschwanstein Castle which Walt used as the base for The Disney Parks Castles. It is also a suitable way of uniting the Disney Parks, as it shows Paris and China.

Maybe subconsciously, whether people want to admit it or not, that many are finding fault is because they dont identify with the international places as much as they did with the old All American Californian version????

We loved it! It looked so real - I normally don't have fear of heights, but I had to remind myself a few times this is just a movie! We sat in the middle.

I do miss the smell of oranges - that was awesome. I like both films, but we found the new one to be more "spectacular" and the scenery very beautiful!

Agree, loved loved that they showed the real Matterhorn and the real Neuschwanstein castle!
I also thought they were "uniting" their parks Worlwide by showing scenes from those countries..

Sooooooo much bending, we miss the smell of oranges. ..even so, I enjoyed it, I enjoy everything when I'm in Disney!!

No, I don't think it has anything to do with that unless there are people actually complaining about the international scenes. The bending of the screen does take away from the experience of "soarin" over the landscape because it takes you from the fantasy that you are actually doing it and brings you to the reality that you are just on a ride in a theme park.
I personally like this film much better than the old, but I enjoyed it much more when I sat in the middle.

Are the new theaters the same as the old? I am just wondering why they don't have two different versions going.

Totally with you. Half the theater gets the bending effect. Everything was warped. CGI - wow .... I jokingly say I knew it was fake when the polar bear stood up and waved at us. It is for sure not up to Disney quality, especially a company that makes so much money from making MOVIES!

You avoid it by shooting it with the proper cameras. The last movie had none of these issues. These type of screens/films are nothing new, 50 years .... Disney is a film company, sad.

Nope.

For as long as I can remember the WDW guests have always expressed, why do we have California? Why not Florida? OR since Epcot includes the World Showcase, why not Around the World? I wouldn't be surprised if this push for the movie was as much that California didn't work at Epcot and wouldn't for other parks other than CA.

"Finding fault" has nothing to do with the content. It has to do with a poorly shot film with a need to add CGI aka cartoon like animals and items. There is also a belief among many that the Taj Mahal is completely CGI. There are apparently very strict laws there that would prevent a drone or anything else in it's protected air space. Having seen the new Soarin', it did look fake. If so I wish they had found another monument in that area to include in the movie. I feel without authenticity it diminishes the film.

I just think someone really dropped the ball. The warping was so severe for us. I just left shaking my head. Not sure if there's an answer to the problem. Maybe it's just the top right and left. Maybe if we're more in the middle it won't bend so bad.

I will say I'm glad they kept the music and Patrick. :)

I actually really enjoyed it and glad we didn't watch it online beforehand. I really did jump at a couple of the things coming at the screen!

But the warping thing was so strange!!! We noticed especially with the Eiffel Tower. We started referring to it as the "Leaning Tower of Eiffel"! :-)

But we did ride it twice and still would go again!

Losing Patrick was a huge fear. So happy he is still with us.

I agree the warping was very noticeable anywhere but front and center.

I have mixed feelings about this ride now. I don't hate it. But it feels much more like I'm now watching a movie on a giant swing than being immersed in the scenery around the world.

There's so much CGI added that the whole thing doesn't feel as genuine.

To me, the old version focused on the beauty of the natural world around us. (Or around California, at least, but you know what I mean.) The new version constantly distracts with special effects that weren't really necessary to begin with.

We loved the old one, and now, I am worried to see the new one.
It's a real shame that Disney could not sort out such things as warping on the edges, and there is really no reason to CGI film of extant places.
We shall see. The old one was our whole family favourite.

I'm shocked Disney is showing the new Soarin, unless you are in the center of the theater the film is warped. The Eiffel Tower looked like it was bent right in half both times I saw it. Besides that I thought it jumped around with no rhyme or reason from location to location.

I didn't notice any warping when we rode (we were in the second row of the center section), but I found the CGI "surprises" off-putting. I hate that there's such a noticeable transition between each scene; the original felt much more natural.

I'm sad to say that Soarin' is no longer one of my favorites.
