Can we still explore the resorts if staying off property?

DH and I will be visiting WDW in late September early October. We are on a super, super budget so won't be staying on site. We would, however, like to visit the different resorts and possibly eat at some of the resort restaurants we've heard about on the boards. Can we do this even if we aren't staying on property? Any help would be greatly appreciated. By the way, thanks for all the great info I posted on the boards, this is my first time posting but definately not the first time reading

You can do basically anything BUT pool hop. HOWEVER you said you're on a superbudget. Most of the restaurants on Disney property are pricey. You might try either going for cocktails or going late and just getting coffee and desert.

Thanks so much for replying Lewisc. I guess our budget is not all that super We're just saving in the accomodations area so we can splurge on other things we haven't tried before. We got a few nights at the 20.03 rate at Courtyard so we were thrilled about that. Still have 4 days to figure out where we're going to stay though. Thanks again for the advice.

Kw4820, you are going to do what I had always wanted to do (but somehow never found the time, *sigh*).

As Lewic has already pointed out, some of the restaurants can be pricey. However, the snack bars, food courts, and quick-service restaurants are usually more resonable, so do check them out. For example, if you find yourself at PO-RS, order a quick snack at the Muddy Rivers Pool Bar and sit outside and enjoy the fresh Florida air.

If you want to spice up your vacation a bit (and use some of that money that you've saved by getting a great rate on your off-site accommodations), how about a tennis lesson? The Contemporary Resort has six clay-surfaced courts, and you can sign up for a tennis lesson/drill lesson/clinic (for reservations, call (407)-WDW-PLAY).

Each of the WDW resorts has something different to offer, and it is a lot of fun finding out what that is. Have a great vacation.

We stayed off-property for our first visit in 2000 (never again though!).

One of our favourite things from the whole trip was a meal at the California Grill in the Contemporary, followed by a walk along the beach by the Poly with the fireworks going off. Definitely take the time to look around!

I've done exactly what you're planning to do and we had a great time. I decided that I'd rather be able to dine where I wanted to and save money on accomodations and it worked well for us. We did lots of resort hopping and dining in various places. We just parked for the day at one of the parks and used Disney's super transportation system to get to wherever we planned to dine.

By the way, that's a super rate!

Thanks for all the great suggestions!!! Now that I know it's possible we'll definately plan to do some resort hopping. I think we may try to get a room at the Grosvenor for a night. How does this resort compare to the Disney resorts? Would you consider it moderate etc.
