Hi - we have an ADR for Cape May Cafe. My mom has very particular dining restrictions - no butter, salt etc. Can we ask them in advance for some plain grilled fish or shrimp or something like that. She can eat from the salad bar to complete the meal, so its just the main dish that needs to be special ordered. Has anyone had any experience with this?

I have never done this, but I am pretty sure I have seen it. I was at the crystal palace and saw the cook come out with a plate for a child and they rest of the kids in the party were going up to the buffet, while this one ate off the plate brought to him. The parents seemed very grateful to the cook, but I was not close enough to hear what was said. DH and I fiqured that was what was happening. I would call which ever buffet and ask- I think you have a good chance

Well, this isn't the same thing as a dietary restriction, but if you ask for french fries from your server at Crystal Palace, you will get them cooked fresh even though they aren't on the buffet.

No personal experience with this, but I know that the chefs deal with dietary restrictions all the time & are very accommodating if you just let them know when you get there :thumbsup2.

My husband and I keep kosher, and we found out before we made our reservations that you can get a lot of things special order at the buffets. I can't seem to find the page on the Disney website that talks about it, but I asked a CM about it as well, so it should be okay. You do have to request it in advance and make sure about it as well.

Yes, they do this fairly frequently for diabetics, people with food allergies, people with celiac or other intolerances, and vegans.

You need to call ahead to make arrangements, then call again 24-48 hours in advance of your ADR to confirm. It would be helpful if you were somewhat specific in your requests (i.e. "My mom can't eat butter or salt, can we please have an entree of plain grilled fish? vs. "My mom needs a special meal."

Often they will have one of the chefs come out and speak to you when you arrive. They will discuss your particular needs and do their best to accomodate you.

Make suer you mention it when you make your reservation, and then mention it again when you check in. A chef should come out and go over the buffet with you and then you'll be able to make a special request.

I would suggest going to the disABILITIES Forum and look at Post #3 of the disABILITIES FAQs. There is a large section in that post dealing with special dietary needs, as well as many related links. You can get directly to the disABILITIES FAQs by following the link in my signature.

This is a very common topic of discussion in the disABILITIES Forum.

Yes you can. They are very accomodating. We went to Hollywood and Vine 3 years ago with DS that has peanut allergy. The chef came out, told us what was safe and wasn't, and offered to make us our own fresh fish because the fish on the buffet had some kind of nut garnish on it. We told him it wasn't necessary since there were so many other choices but he came out to our table 2 times later and kept offering to make our own fresh.

thery did for us didn't ask too much thing they would but call at least 24 hr ahead.

Disney restaurants try their hardest to accommodate guest with dietary restrictions, but I would call about 24 hours in advance just to be sure. :thumbsup2

1) The chefs can usually fit any medical restriction.
2) But, they might not be able to get special food not on an alternate menu.
3) That is like going to a TS and eating from a menu.
4) Best to call and ask.

yes! you can talk to the head chef they will go out of their way to help you if possible. AT crystal palace my daughter just wanted plain buttered noodles with nothing else they even brought it to our table when it was done. At Ohana' s my fater did not like the meat was all marinated ahead of time (he is very picky)the chef got him unmarinated meat and grilled it special for him! They will go out of their way to help you just ask!
