They might leave coffee filters, tea bags or sugar & creamer packets there if you put them in the coffee basket, but generally, housekeeping throws out anything left by previous occupants of the unit.

Some members leave a note on unopened food items / soda that indicates housekeeping may have the items or they tke them to Bell Services and offer them to the employees. I believe policy is that housekeeping / employees may not take items from the rooms even after the guests have departed.

Best wishes -

I'm not sure if they clean out all the cabinets, and such.....

But with everyone afraid, etc., it's really hard to leave stuff, and know if anyone will use it.

I've always have leftover detergent, that I leave hoping someone will use.... but never have heard one way or the other.

anything left will be removed. The unit will look exactly as it looked when you walked in. Nothing personal or out of place. Next time you arrive it will look identical. With that being said, while at BCV we had a room across from the laundry. We had our own washer and dryer in the room but noticed ll kinds of detergent left in the public room. So, if that is left, walk it to the public washinger/dryer room. I think I might be afraid to use thinking it was someone's, but 12 different brands half used was a sign that they were left by some kind dvc'ers!

When we left OKW we had alot of unopened food. I asked the mousekeeper if she wanted it or should I try to give it to someone elese. She said she would love to keep it all. So we left everything for her.

regarding detergent, tide makes these great travel cubes, I bought a box and take 3-4 on every trip, I throw them and dryer sheets in one zip lock, and another zip lock has sugar in one of those gladware containers. We also take the maxwell house coffee already in filters, that way they are easy to travel with, no waste, and don't have to worry about this stuff. Cascade also makes dishwasher cleaner that looks just like the tide cubes, I bought some, but really never have used it.

I walked out to the pool and gave unused unpened food to families who had just arrived. All were very grateful, as was I when another family gave me their unused unopened food. I was told by a staff member that mousekeepers WOULD take what they wanted, and NOT automatically throw things out

I did the same thing. We left the day before Frances hit, and we had a case of unopened water, cans of soda, gatorade, beer, etc. I stopped a family as they came by and they were happy to take it. The family next to us was happy for the rest. :wave2:

I always bag any unopen food and leave it in the villas hoping someone (housekeeping)will be able to use or give it to someone.

Now i'll start leaving a note on the bag.

When we left OKW in early June, we called housekeeping about unopened food that we had. We were told to put it in the refrigerator. The food would then be collected and given to "Second Harvest" - or something similar.

More than once I've found leftover stuff in the small cabinet above the refrigerator. One time it was bisquit mix, another time a box of pasta. I guess housekeeping doesn't check up there. I have a habit of checking all the cabinets and drawers when we check-in. I guess the nosey side of me :p .

We bring it to the valet .. they have always been happy to take water, beer, soda, chips etc. off our hands. We also leave them our landry supplies etc. We too hate to see things go to waste, and we're happy to leave it with people we know will be able to use it. I suspect the drinks, with the exception of the beer, is probably consumed during working hours. We left a small christmas tree with the valet at the beach club one year. as we drove away we noticed they had put it up on the outside valet stand and the lights were plugged in.

I have always thought they should have a designated area to leave things you can't take home, but others can use. Not only food and lundery, but beach toys or cheap strollers. Sort of a "lost and found" idea. But not lost, and if you want it take it. Like the coopon boxes some grocey stores have. I think it would be great since DVC is kind of a community anyway. I like the idea of giving it to others, but sometimes it can be hard to find someone else on your way out, waiting until last min and all.
