Welcome to my first PTR!

I had a few alternative PTR names:

Around the World in 80 Noms. But obviously it won't be Food and Wine, so that doesn't really make sense.

How much nom could a woodchuck nom if a woodchuck could nom noms? But that just doesn't actually make sense at all... and are woodchucks real or are they like unicorns?

Anyway, here we are, less than three months out so I thought it was a good time to start a pre-trip report. AKA "Let's talk about what I'm going to eat" for the next 75 days. I LOVE to eat, and that's at least 50% of the purpose of travelling for me. We'll have the QSDP and we're going to try to stick to it as well as we can, with maybe one table service. It'll be hard to miss out on all the great TS restaurants, but I'm determined that we can be stuffed and satisfied with only quick service and snacks.

Intros (WHO!)

This is me (Kelsey) and my husband (Jason) in Disneyland 2 years ago.

This is the only photo we have of the two of us from that trip. No Photopass, what?! One successful selfie? Pitiful! I'm pretty sure I took more photos of food than of us. I'll do better this time though!

However, I DID do a trip report (see signature) as well as one for our honeymoon trip in 2009! Check them out if you're into DisneyLAND at all.

Here we are on the same trip, in Pismo Beach for a friend's wedding (the purpose of the trip to California). Looking dapper!

And here's a pic of all four of us who will be going on THIS trip from our last trip to WDW together in 2008. We will call them K (her) and R (him).

image029-1.jpg

They have been to Disneyworld and Land a few more times than we have, they are the true disfans!

We are super excited to be going back to "Big" Disney as DH thinks of it... he says he has no interest in going to DL again. Well, I have no problem with going to WDW! He's just happy we can drink and he can smoke cigars in DTD. Whatever gets him there!

WHERE! We are staying at Pop again because it's cheap and we liked it last time. Looking forward to checking out the AoA food court too.

WHEN! We'll be arriving around dinner time on September 4th and leaving early on the 11th. We'll have five full Disney days and one Universal days so we can visit Springfield and the Simpsons.

WHY! Free dining, $265 round trip flights from Seattle, cuz we want to and umm, YOLO? That was how K got me to commit to going, she told me a sad story where the moral was 'you never know when you might die, so why bother saving all of your money instead of going to Disneyworld?' I shed a tear, and then my credit card shed some tears. We have free quick service dining and we're going to do our best to not spend too much more on food, so hit me with ALL of your best, most delicious QS restaurants and specific meals. K is a picky eater, but we're all cool with going our separate ways for meals.

WHAT! Umm... trip to WDW? Isn't that obvious yet? Our friends are looking forward to a child free trip! Their daughter is super cute and perfect, but they decided that at 2 1/2 she just isn't quite ready to wait in line and they'd prefer to stay out later than 8pm!

So that's the 5 dubs. I hope I will get some readers, and I promise, if you buy in now there will be a great trip report upon my return! Be back soon for an update :goodvibes

I'm in! Yup, we'll be getting there the day before you guys leave! Maybe we'll cross paths in that time!

Free food is definitely an exciting part of the trip! :goodvibes

In for your PTR! :goodvibes

Hi! Welcome!

I'm in! Yup, we'll be getting there the day before you guys leave! Maybe we'll cross paths in that time!

Free food is definitely an exciting part of the trip! :goodvibes

It seems like there are a lot more Dissers going your week than mine! I hope that means mine will be a walk-on week :D I did notice there are still a TON of ADRs to be had when I'll be there.

Shall I elaborate on the who?

DH and I have been married for four years, and together for eight, craziness! Were both in our late 20s, but he wont be for much longer, heh heh. Unfortunately his birthday isnt until November, so we wont quite be able to celebrate it on our trip.

He plays a bunch of sports: baseball, soccer, hockey, golf and likes watching them on tv too. Hes into motorcycles, cigars and old-time razors. Yes, hes like an old man, grumpy and all!

Me!!! Im a year and a month younger than Jason so I dont have to worry about being 30 yet ;) Im an accountant, but Im still kinda fun. I love: yoga, kickboxing, crocheting and snowboarding! Kickboxing is over for the summer, and so is snowboarding obviously, and crocheting dies down when its hot out, so Im kind of sad to just be doing yoga this summer. But it gives me more dis time. And Ill go golfing with DH a few times, and well probably go for some long bike rides. :thumbsup2

I haven't crocheted anything Disney-ish, but here are a few hats I've made recently to match the girls' favourite stuffed animals:

Our Disney favourites:

Jason:
Rides: ToT (he says he likes this ride when he's tired cuz it wakes him up!), Safari, Pirates
Movies: Aladdin, Star Wars
Food: Cosmic Rays (he LOVES chicken, like 1/4 chicken, 1/2 chicken... keep it comin')

Me:
Rides:
ToT, TSM, Expedition Everest, Thunder Mountain, Haunted Mansion
Movies: Toy Story (all 3!), Little Mermaid
Food: Jalapeno Cream Cheese Pretzel, Tusker House, excited to try more of the good ones this trip!

Aw those hats are super cute!! You're so talented. I wish I was good at crafty things. My mom and grandma both are but it seems like the gene was lost on me. :lmao:

Thanks! I'm not particularly artsy, but I can follow a pattern. It took me three or four times of trying to crochet, like years apart, before finally it stuck. I got it from my gramma, not from my mom, haha.

I'm not going to count this as day one because it won't be a park day and we'll be arriving late-ish!

We're flying Southwest and will arrive at MCO at 7:30, which is nice, not too late, and really only 4:30 for us PST west coasters. I'm sure we'll be starving though! So we'll (hopefully) find our way to the Magical Express and head to Pop. I hope we're the first drop off, I'll keep my fingers crossed that we don't have to visit too many other resorts first!

Once we get our rooms we'll drop off our carry ons, freshen up a bit, and head to Downtown Disney :thumbsup2

We will run directly to Wolfgang Puck Express and EAT! Unless we're late, and they've closed, then we'll cry and find a margarita stand. I've heard so many good things about WPE and I cannot wait to try it. I don't know what I'll order though, because Starving Kelsey doesn't always follow previously made decisions.

We'll wander around a bit afterwards and visit a few stores, but it'll be fairly late so we'll head back to our rooms to pass out to start fresh in the AM.

Anyone want to guess where we're going for our first park day? Here's a hint: it's probably no one's first park day ever :upsidedow

I'm laughing because we have essentially the same arrival day plans! :rotfl:
I've heard such great things about WPE! I can't wait to try it.

Hmmmm based on your hint, I think your first park will be Animal Kingdom!

Yeah! I'm just happy we'll get there early enough to go to DTD. We were looking at other flights that'd get us there at 11pm, ick. The time change really sucks up our day!

Nope, good guess, but DH picked DHS as the first park! He really wants ToT to be his first ride.

I'll post my Day 1 when I get home from work ;)

I gotta show off my cute new bag. I'm going to use it as a carryon since it's big enough to put my purse, ereader, camera etc. in it and it has a zipper so I don't dump it over :thumbsup2

Good ol' Walmart, $12!

Ok, I'm pretty much just writing for myself and one VERY NICE reader, so please comment if you're reading!

I've got some photos from five years ago to spice things up a bit!

We're going to grab a quick breakfast either at Pop or AoA this morning so we can get going early.

Day 1 and we're going to Hollywood Studios first! Weird, right?

image003.jpg

DH requested Tower of Terror as our first ride, and who are we to argue with that?

image083.jpg

First though, we'll grab some FPs for TSM. I don't think it was quite as popular when it first opened, because we didn't have to wait all that long! Maybe we were just happy to be there and didn't care :hyper:

Of course we will then do Rock N Rollercoaster!

image139.jpg

With our adrenaline pumping, we'll head off to... the Great Movie Ride! It's on the way, ok?

We might be ready for a snack now, and I think it makes sense with the direction we're moving it, we'll stop for an iced latte and CARROT CAKE COOKIEEEE!!! Yes please!

And then, another ride we LOVE: Star Tours! We fell in love with this on our last trip to DL.

DSCN0464.jpg

May or may not have held up small children in order to get this photo :rotfl:

Then we'll maybe want an airconditioned break, so we'll see Muppet Vision 3D before lunch.

For lunch I really want to try:

DSCN0462.jpg

Min and Bill's Dockside Diner. Their stuffed chicken caesar sandwich looks great, I know the picky eater will eat a hotdog stuffed pretzel roll and there are gigantic chocolate milkshakes/soft serve for dessert!

I have two other must-dos for this park today: Beauty and the Beast and One Man's Dream!

Last time we saw the Little Mermaid show, so I'm not sure DH will want to see it again.

Before we leave for an afternoon break we'll check out Animation Academy and draw a character! Both DH and I loved this at California Adventure.

I have no idea if this timing will work out, but it's the general idea ;)

Dinner is unpredictable (it's weird not having ADRs!) But we'll probably come back to DHS tonight and watch Fantasmic! I love this show and it's a good first full night event.

I'm not sure if we should eat dinner at DHS or not, any CS suggestions? Should we hop to Epcot for dinner and World Showcase? Something at DTD?

I have this thing where I like to explore parks fully the first time I visit, so I think I'd be dissappointed to hop to Epcot for just a few hours and not be able to take it all in at once!

:wave2: Hi! We'll be there during the same time (we get in on the 2nd)...I hope your prediction for low crowds for this week comes true!!!

Looking forward to reading more!

Just found your PTR. I'm arriving the same day as you but staying a little longer. Going back to read now.

That Minnie tote is adorable! And for $12? How awesome! I'm pretty sad, we're not allowed to have Walmart in NYC.

We're actually going to DHS for our first park too :rotfl2: It's just the way it worked out planning around the crowd calendars!

Hm Min and Bill's Dockside Diner does sound good! I've never really heard too much about it. Maybe we'll have to check it out too!

I'm not familiar with the Boardwalk area but I know a lot of people leave DHS to go there to eat because you can walk/take a boat there. A good CS option there would be Beaches and Cream. I've read awesome things about their food and ice cream!

Ok, so now all of the people who will be there during "my week" are coming out of the woodwork, maybe it won't be so quiet after all! J/K! I still think it will be. I just read your PTR last night and commented :thumbsup2

Nice! I will go check out your PTR now. Even if you're staying longer ;) I keep panicking that we won't be there for long enough, only 6 days! And one will be tied up with Universal, but I figure, any time is better than none :hyper:

Huh, no Walmart? Probably for the best, haha.

DHS first too huh, and I thought we were weirdos! It seems like there are a lot more places to eat there than there was last time, or maybe I just didn't pay attention before. I think I first saw Min and Bill's posted here: http://apinchofpixiedust.blogspot.ca/2013/06/top-five-disney-sandwiches.html

Last time we ate there DH and I split a burger at ABC Commissary. We were starving, so it did it's job. Oh, and we did the buffet at Hollywood and Vine for the Fantasmic package. I actually thought it was good there!

Yeah, I'm not sure of all the technicalities but I know there's something in play that doesn't allow Walmart to come to NYC. I think the point is that it would shut down too many smaller "mom and pop" businesses, which I totally understand how that's true but I just don't understand why it's different in NYC than in other places :confused3 Maybe because everything is in such close proximity here? I'm not sure! There is one right over the bridge in NJ but the toll is $13 which makes me sad lol

Hahaha it is kinda weird I guess but whatever :rotfl2:

I'm not gonna lie, I know ABC Commissary gets a really bad rep here but we've eaten there on both trips and never had a complaint. Both times it was peak lunch time and it was pretty quiet, there were tons of places to sit and the food tasted fine. I mean, they were burgers so nothing spectacular but as you said, it certainly did it's job!

Glad to hear you enjoyed Hollywood and Vine! I was gonna book it for the Fantasmic! package but I've heard pretty bad reviews about it so I didn't. We'll have to try it some time!

You can add me to the ABC Comissary is not so bad club. ABCCINSBC? Nah. I ate there a few times. I was there at off times so I didn't feel bad about taking up a table for one for a long time. It was a good place to eat, relax, and check stuff off my map. But I say head to Epcot to eat dinner. You can do fish n chips in the UK or pretend you're tailgating with brats and beer in Germany. Or have some of the crazier food I try to convince myself to try. A lot of people push walking from HS to Epcot but I really like the boat ride, even if it takes longer.

We had the fish and chips last time, but the brats and beer sound good! We also ate in Morocco (I think you'd consider that crazy?) and it was amazingly delicious, so it's definitely in my plans.

Also, I read a review on the disney parks blog about the Boardwalk Bakery, and it looks amazing now! So I might try and get them to go there for a lunch break, and then we can eat dinner at Min & Bills (although that might be too many sandwiches) or Toy Story Pizza Planet when we go back to DHS.

So we'll go back to DHS in the evening and ride some favourites again and watch Fantasmic at 8:30.

The CS place in Morocco was our favorite! The Boardwalk Bakery does look delicious, sounds like a good choice. :goodvibes
