Can we *fit*??

We're going to Disney World the week after Thanksgiving and right now I'm booked for a Polynesian studio. Now my in-laws may be joining us. So, it will be 4 adults and 2 kids (2 & 5). We'll also have a double stroller & my mother in law is considering renting a scooter. Would we even be able to fit in the room? The kids can sleep in the beds with us to save a little room.

I know it will be tight - but can we fit?

Alternately, points & availability wise, I could rent a 1 bedroom at AKV Kidani or OKW. Saratoga and Boardwalk would have to be a waitlist.

Any information is appreciated! We've never stayed at any of these resorts and online photos can only show so much. :)

Sounds very tight to me. While I have not stayed in a studio at the Poly I have stayed in a room there and studios elsewhere. Would recommend switching to the 1 bedroom at AKV and waitlising Boardwalk. AKV is roomier but Boardwalk better location.

I believe your party would be "legal" (4 adults, one 5 year old and an infant) for the Poly, but no way would I put that many people in the same room, especially since one of you will have a scooter. The Poly has one queen bed, one queen sleep sofa and a "close to twin size" Murphy bed. The infant (2 year old) can sleep in the Pac 'n Play. While the Poly bathroom is split, only one has a toilet.

I agree with the previous poster - try for a 1 bedroom at either BLT or AKV-Kidani, where you'll also have two full bathrooms. An OKW 1 bedroom is also a reasonable alternative. Those villas are relatively large and have a queen sleep sofa plus a twin sized sleep chair in the living room. The OKW laundry room is large enough to hold the Pac 'n Plan and give you a "private" space for baby naps.

AFAIK, your party would NOT be legal for the Boardwalk 1 bedrooms. MS will allow 5 people of any age in those villas, but not 6, even if one is an infant. You'd also be on your own to provide linens for the 5th person (bedding and towels).

We stayed in a Poly Studio last year and are not light packers-we had our large suitcases in the entry area of the studio (where the connecting door is) and wound up usually parking our single stroller (larger umbrella style) in the bathroom (the large one with the bathtub) to alleviate the congestion in the entry area. We saw MANY double size strollers parked in the poly hallway in Moorea on that trip so I am guessing it can be hard to fit them inside let alone a scooter too.

Your desire to include your in-laws is commendable, but I think you might want to consider some alternatives. I think even a 1 bedroom would be tight for you.
1) if they have the means, suggest they book their own room at the Poly.
2) if they don't have the means, suggest they stay at a value or offsite and meet up every day.
3) explain that DVC requires advanced planning, so it is too late for this trip, but maybe next year you could get a 2br.

I don't know if one of these options is right for you. I am just generating some additional options.
I think that they should understand that six people is too crowded for the space of a hotel room.

Good luck!

Six people in a studio, conceptually, makes me itch. I cannot name any 6 people on earth I could do that for a week with, and this includes several of my best friends/old college roommates, my spouse, and my kids.

Are you legal? Yes. Will it be comfortable? I cannot imagine that it would be, especially with two kids and an adult with mobility issues.

OP, my suggestion would be a 1-BR at Kidani. They have a second full bath, which BWV doesn't have but would likely be useful with 4 adults & 2 kids. And AKV is my second favorite DVC resort at WDW - I just love watching the animals on the savannah.

I would opt for the 1 bedroom at Kidani as well (separate sleeping spaces for the adults and 2 bathrooms would make a much more pleasant week with 6). And there will be so much more room to store things than a studio. And I think everyone would enjoy seeing animals from the balcony (assuming you get savanna view).

The poly studios are actually quit small, the extra sq footage is used by bath rooms not living space. Good luck.

The one bedroom st OKW will be th biggest but know one bathroom. AK will have the second bathroom when eill be nice with that many people. I wouldn't do a studio with 4 people let alone 6.

Thanks guys! I spoke with my mother-in-law and if they go, we're thinking about getting the 1 bedroom at Kidani. I've never wanted to stay at AKV but hopefully I'll love it. I've explained the need to be speedy in the decision so hopefully that works. Unfortunately, they don't have the means to book their own room and I don't have the points to book 2 studios at this point. We might be cramped, but we'll be in Disney World! I'm used to beach houses where you just stack people like sardines and your whole family gets real close ;)

I would not do the studio!! We have stayed at AKL and OKW - I don't think you can go wrong at either place - but make sure you ask for ground floor if you go with OKW and the scooter!

We like OKW for the colors and light and space and short walks from the car/bus, close quiet pools and play areas (we like building 55) ... And AKL for the animals and the 2nd bathroom! (But you can add a really long walk depending on your room location). If you really think they would join you - I would grab one of these and save the Poly for another time...you will love having the kitchen and laundry with the little kids anyway!

AKL/v is awesome! Especially with little ones. It is why I recommended it in my last post. The only downside is that it is a bus ride to every park. That said it is a very, very small downside for the space you will get, the animal adventures and the beauty of the resort. Also great restaurants.

You will be very happy with your decision and the next time you go when it is just the 4 of you a studio at Poly will be a fun, new adventure.

Yikes! We have stayed at the poly studios twice with just DH and our two kids and it felt so cramped. I would never add my in-laws to that situation and all sleep in one room. The sofa bed mattresses are really really not comfortable either and I just imagine someone snoring, someone getting up to use the bathroom and everyone tripping over each other. And you would get to wake up to the ferry horns frequently... Be kind to yourselves, your kids and your in-laws and head for AKV.

The other bonus with the AKV Kidani 1-bedroom would be having a king size bed since you're considering having the kids sleep with you. Much better than in a queen IMO.

The extra bonus really being the sleeper chair! So only 1 kid needs to sleep with you or in the pack n okay!

either AKV or OKW. AKV-K 1BR will also have 2 full bathrooms! OKW is much roomier and handles a larger crowd very well. Both AKV and OKW will have a twin sleeper chair in addition to queen sleeper sofa. It might be better for grandma to sleep with the 5 yr old and let grandpa have the sleeper chair. OKW has much larger living room area.

I was thinking if the kids slept in the bedroom with mom & dad that grandma & grandpa could have the privacy of having the LR to themselves.... Of course the 2 yr old could still sleep in the pack & play in the bedroom & the older kid could sleep in the king bed.... Either way, several better scenarios with a 1-bedroom vs a studio.
