Unbelievable!! My precious wife just said, "I think I'm ready to honestly consider DVC." I just about freaked. We've been going to WDW at least once yearly (beginning with our honeymoon in '80); cruised on the Magic last year for our 20th (absolutely the best); and lived in New Smyrna Beach (1 hr. 10 min. drive from door to gate) -- we'd go just about weekly back in those days. We've stayed everywhere on property except GF and CB. Disneyaholics? You betcha. Now that DS is graduating from High School and entering into a stint with the Marines, and DD is a 14-year-old who'll be flying the coop before we know it :( , I think DW is seeing a valid need to not only take care of our vacation needs, but making provisions for grandkids on down the road. BELIEVE me, she's come a long way to say even THIS much. We've done as much homework on the financials as we can (spreadsheets, obsessive point counting, etc.) and it's looking promising. Just a couple of questions for the vets: what kind of experiences have you had with member getaways? (DD would love to go to NYC for her graduation, for example.) Has anyone bought HH or VB but used the WDW resorts exclusively? And finally ... did any of you have a hesitant spouse, and what was the strategy you used to get them totally on board? Thanks ever so much!!

Go on, jump right in! :) I had what I thought was a hesitant spouse also. I pondered over how to do a DVC tour on our last trip. I could not think of how to trick her into one without incuring her wrath. (She hates suprizes) So.....I just blurted out during dinner one night about a week before our last trip. "How about we take a look at the DVC next week? I'm really curious about it." Well, I was just about floored when she said it sounded OK to her.

Anyway, we do the tour and listen to the guide. When he leaves us alone to talk it over, she says "Sounds like a no brainer to me, lets do it." Well, I just about fainted! Now we all know real men don't faint so I gathered my deepest voice and said "Yes, dear, I think you are right."

It was one of the easyest major purchases we have made in our 20+years together. We did the Disney finance. We have not even stayed at the VWL yet but, when I start to think of this coming November and January my head starts to spin and I get lightheaded. Excuse me while I shake my head and say "Yes, dear" <IMG WIDTH="15" HEIGHT="15" SRC="/infopop/emoticons/icon_redface.gif" alt="red face"> There feel better already.

you won't regret it! you may regret not buying in sooner; that's our only regret as far as dvc goes. with the member getaways and exchanges, you have to be a bit flexible and book in advance.

DVC makes it so easy to use your points to take fantastic vacations almost everywhere, We've used our points to travel to London and Disneyland Paris, we will do NYC soon, and maybe the cruise, and when we go "home" it is so relaxing to lounge around and we will be now be doing the 2 bedroom unit in OKW for our family of four.

The main thing you need to listen to is "buy where you want to stay". If you like the Boardwalk, you will want to look for BWV resale ore wait for BCV to come on board (speculation that these will be more costly than the current DVC properties). If you like the townhouse atmosphere of OKW, a resale is in order also, but VWL can be purchased from Disney as well as HH and VB. We did a Disney finance for a few months until we had access to the money for the whole thing, so our finance was for a very short few months. It was very easy. Our add on was a cash sale, so we had no finance expenses.

Our only regret is that we didn't do it sooner! We started looking at DVC in 1991 when they first talked about it. We didn't buy until 1997! I just keep thinking of all those on-site trips that we could have saved so much money on if we had only done DVC sooner!

We just purchased 150 pts at VWL in January and financed through Disney. They offer you a variety of plans to meet just about any financial situation.

Financing is available from 1-10 years, I believe. The down payment is dependant on the length of the mortgage. Very simple to understand and digest.
Hope this helps.

We financed through Disney, no problems, easy, one-stop shopping.
