If I buy water to take onboard, can I leave it with the luggage to be taken to my cabin? Or do I have to carry it around onboard til my cabin is ready? I was thinking about buying a case and I sure can't carry that around.

I've been told its okay. Does sound like people have done this. Not a first hand expierence yet. I have a collapsable duffle I plan to put a case in and probably carry a six pack with me. I can easily go through that much water in week.

I thought I had read on here before about cruisers just leaving the case of water labeled with their name and room number with the porter. I would have to take an extra empty suitcase just for water if I put it in one. Has anyone taken water that was not inside of luggage or remember reading a post about it? Any information would be appreciated.

We put a 12-pack of water bottles and one of beer in our hard-shell suitcase and checked it on our cruise in January. There was no problem. I must say the new boxes of 12 water bottles are more convenient to travel with than the normal packaging with shrinkwrap. You won't have any problems checking it.

Does the beer get cold enough in the so called frig that is in the staterooms? Or do you have to put it on ice?

Our cabin steward brought us ice a couple of times a day. We would fill a gallon size Ziploc bag with the ice and keep it around the beer in the cold box. Doing that kept all our drinks really cold.

I would not put the water in a suitcase. If the water bottle broke or leaked, it could leak all over your other stuff or someone elses. Im sure the luggage get banged around a bit. If the water is exposed, the porter can see a leaky bottle or not crush it. They will give you a tag and you can put it on for your room

There is really no reason to bring bottled water onboard.

If you want to have some for excursions, just pack a sport bottle or two. The water in the stateroom tap is filtered and is chemical free, and you can get all the ice you want from the room steward. And if you dislike that for some reason, on deck 9 there is a drink station that'll provide ice and double filtered water as much as you want.

Mark, I was prepared to lug water, or at least buy the $30 case from DCL, but your idea is a good one.

It is my understanding that the ship leaves port loaded with water (city water). This usually lasts about 2 days before they have to take the salt water and filter it to make it into drinking water. So if you do not like city water then you need to have a supply to last for at least the first couple days. I do not like the city water where I live but I have not tasted Port Canaveral water. My cruise is only 3 days so I figured if I had to take water for 2 days, then I might as well take it for 3 days. If anyone knows about the taste of the water in port canaveral, I'd be interested in knowing. :D

Uh, no. They do NOT take on any water for the systems anywhere, including home port. Only thing they do load on is bottled as part of the food stock. Some other lines may draw land water, but DCL does not. All ships onboard water is processed from ocean water. They have a complete desaliniztion plant onboard, and after the salt is stripped off, they run the water thru a process called reverse osmosis. Most high end filtering systems use this method and it produces completely pure water.

I'm an engineer and specifically discussed this with the ship's engineer. If you have any other questions I'd be happy to cover them. I talked with him for a while about ship's systems.
