can transferred points be banked

yes, transferred pts may be banked.

(but banked pts may not be transferred.)

What is a transferred point? How is different from renting?

But good to know they can be banked.

you can't really rent a point. you can only rent a reservation.

if i rent a DVC reservation to you (as a DVC owner or non-owner), i still own the reservation and can modify or cancel it as i choose.

if i transfer pts to you (only if you are a DVC owner), then the pts are yours to use as you wish (subject to their retained home resort and use year status.) there is a limit of one transfer per year.

So if I see a post for "XX points for rent", since I am a DVC person, those points would be "transfered" to me? I assume that the "for rent" is for non DVC member who want to stay on a member's points?

Possibly, since each member is restricted to one transfer (either in or out) per use year, many people will not transfer or only transfer large amounts of points.

thanks for the responses, got this finally from DVC. Transferred points can be banked as long as they could be banked in the original account they were in. So if you have points that cant be banked and you transfer them than they still can not be banked

No, if you want to receive a transfer from another member you should look for a thread titled "Points for Transfer" or "Points for Rent/Transfer". If the other member is only offering to rent, they may NOT be able to transfer because they are banked points or they have already used their one transfer for the year.

If you are "renting" points, you will only have a reservation made in your name (member or not) - you will not have control over those points.

No, if you have points that cannot be banked, they cannot be transferred in the first place. This includes both banked and borrowed points. The only exception is Holding Account points - which can be transferred but cannot be banked and will retain their original holding status and expiration date. (MS has not always allowed those to be transferred either so it would be best to verify before trying to do so.)

But I would look to "buy" transfer points if we were trying to collect for a big family vacation and this year and next year's points were not enough.

And I would try to "sell" transfer points if I forgot to bank or didn't want to bank because I might use the cash for a totally different vacation for this year (or next if UY has come).

Simple enough?

Would you only work through the DIS or TSS or are there other outlets for this?

Not entirely true. If you have current UY points, that can not be banked because you are outside your banking window, you can still transfer these points to someone else (since they are still current UY points). They are not bankable for the owner, and it sounds like MS is saying that the person who receives them won't be given an exception to bank them either.

That is correct. Current points that are past their banking window can still be transferred ... and I believe MS has still been allowing them to be banked after the transfer (many have reported that to be the case). I would certainly verify that before accepting points in that situation though.

Thanks for the correction.
