Can this be done?

I hope this makes sense:

We have a 1 bedroom pref. view @ BWV for 9/24-10/1 (200 points). My Mom is thinking about flying down for 1/2 the stay (say Wed- Sat). We would then need a 2 bedroom. Can we book 1 BR for 1/2 the stay (which we already have) and then change it to a 2 BR for the other 1/2. Would we be able to get the studio right next door and open that up? We don't want to make ressie for a separate studio because that uses more points than a 2 BR. Would it be easier if my Mom came down the 1st 1/2 of the stay and we had a 2 BR then she leaves and we have it reduced down to a 1 BR? Does this make sense what I'm asking? I'll try to show you better below:

Sat 9/24 - 1 BR
Sun 9/25 - 1 BR
Mon 9/26 - 1 BR
Tue 9/27 - 1 br
Wed 9/28 - 2 BR (adj studio)
Thur 9/29 - 2 BR
Fri 9/30 - 2 BR
Sat 10/01 - home

OR

Sa 9/24 - 2 Br
Su 9/25 - 2 br
mo 9/26 - 2 br
Tu 9/27 - 1 br
we 9/28 - 1 br
th 9/29- 1 br
fr - 9/30- 1 br
sa - home

Does this make sense and will MS allow me to do this? A 2 BR for the entire week is 270 points but only part of week would be 239, I would really like to not spend the extra points.

The key here would be availablility. If it IS available, MS can link the ressies and request that you not have to change rooms, but it is not guaranteed.

It may not be that easy. You're going in September which can be a popular time for DVC due to the low points. To have a 1-B/R switch to a 2-B/R would require that there be a lock-off unit where someone is in the 1-B/R portion and is checking out the same day you want to check-in, and that also the party in the Studio portion of the unit will be checking out mid week on the same day your mother arrives, thus making the studio portion available.

With all the combinations of check-in's and check-out's, that particular combination may not occur which would leave you out. Then you would be forced to actually move.

If you start with a 2-B/R and then downsize to a 1-B/R that's much easier. I would suggest if possible your mother come down for the first part of the stay and not the last part.

You can make a reservation for the first half of your stay in a 1BR and the second half in a two bedroom as long as there is avialability. The difficult part is getting it right next to your one bedroom so you only have to open the door. I think it would be easier to change the trip around so that you needed a 2BR for the first half of the trip, but you still couldn't be assured of how it will play out.

We had a studio one year for one night then a 2BR for the rest of the trip. When we checked in, we asked about doing what you want to do so that we wouldn't have to move. The CM who checked us in worked it out so we could do it. The next day we had to check out of the studio and check back into the 2BR. We had new keys and cards issued but we just opened the door between the two rooms without moving.

Make sure you mention it at check in and then a couple of days prior to the room switch as well no matter how you decide to do the trip.

One thing to consider is how your current 1 bedroom reservation is setup. I have stayed at BWV 6 times in a 1 bedroom, all 6 times I had a dedicated 1 bedroom, which means no connecting door.

Good point! And another reason for the OP to start the trip in a 2 bedroom. All of the 2 bedrooms at BWV are lock offs, but some of the 1 bedroom units and some of the studios are dedicated. As others have already suggested, it will be easier to do what she wants if she starts out in the 2 bedroom.

Best wishes -

Thanks for all the responses. I will talk to my Mom about riding down with us and arriving on 24th and then flying home on that Tues. or Wed. That does seem like it would be the easiest solution. I will see what my Mom wants to do and then contact MS.

No way to guarantee it but your chances are great, esp at BWV. Just make it known ahead of time and again on check in. I think you'll have to check in again and get new keys. You might also consider just getting a 2 BR for the entire time if you have enough points.
