can this be done? pool "hopping" question....

They don't ask for ID when you enter Stormalong Bay, just a room key. So how about put their middle and last name on the BCV reservation and their first and last name on the reservation of the resort they're actually staying at?

I think this is a good idea. In fact, since they only need a room key to get to Stormalong Bay, you can just put fake names, up to the limit of guests allowed in your room.

I know I am probably in the minority I could never misname someone in my family just to get them in a pool I feel is over rated.

I would just go hop to BW and be legit about it.

A few weeks ago I had asked for an extra room key for my brother who was staying at another resort. He had a car, we didn't and he was picking me up a few times. Also we wanted him to be able to rest in our room, if he needed even if we weren't around at the time. We got it with no problem.

However, I didn't try to use it at the pool. Three times over the course of 5 days, we tried to get him into the pool just to taking pictures of my grand kids. Once he could get in at all. Once the CM let him go him (I told her it would be 5 mins and it was) but she seemed a little nervous. And once, it was no problem at all. There were other times, he wasn't with us and there wasn't any CM checking at all.

Is SIL using your points? If not, I can't see how they could cross reference the names. I'm sure there are different people with the same names staying at WDW resorts.

both reservations are using my points.

I think Debbie was asking me (OP), but am not sure; either way, yes, my SIL would be staying on points that we are renting combined with our own.

Not sure if I feel comfortable using fake names, but using middle names might work. I just need to figure out if this is doable before hand because I would feel awful if our kids couldn't enjoy SAB together.

Sammie, I would not feel comfortable making up names either, my original question was simply if I could add guests staying at another villa to our room as long as we are within the capacity. My kids want to share SAB with their cousins. You might find it overrated, but my kids think it's the coolest thing in the world. So my goal here is to find out if this is doable, I'm not looking to break any rules and I'm not interested in hopping to BW.

Not sure I get your "legit" comment, I'm not looking to be less than legit. I'm allowed to have 12 people in those 2 rooms without breaking any rules.

If he had a key, why wouldn't he be allowed in the pool?

Was he staying at another resort on property?

In Dec. I have a 2 bdrm in my name and a HA studio reserved in the name of a friend. I asked to have my name on the HA room (not primary) so I could check her in at the same time I checked in. MS told me I couldn't have my name on two reservations.

Middle names aren't made up...

More seriously: ordinarily I'd agree with you, and more often than not I'm a by-the-book kind of guy. But, this restriction strikes even me as a little bit silly.

Other than room types, this is the exact situation I'm dealing with. Even if I wanted to, I couldn't use a fake name on the second reservation because they check ids when you check in.

I like that they check IDs as we check in. IMHO, All adults need to be checked before being given a key. That said, I feel an owner should be allowed to put their name on as many rooms as they want.

I don't understand why this rule was created. Do you think this restriction was added to deter the big renters from grabbing up prime rooms and dates in their name?

I totally agree. We're the owners, we are taking full responsibility for that additional room no matter what and we're asking to put our names on our extended family/friends rooms to help them out. Why does this matter to Disney? :confused3

Someone eluded to this having to do with the dining plan and emh. I don't see the connection...most of us would never add people to our rooms, give them keys and access just so they can have 'perks' unless they are very close to us and we know we can trust them with our key.

I must add, I've never reserved a room for anyone other than my own use (with kids), but now 1 of those 3 kids is now post-college and obviously prefers to have his own room. If we're traveling at the same time, as I hope we can some day, I'd like to check us in together requesting that the rooms be close to each other. I wouldn't be able to do that if my name weren't on his room.

I would send an email to the member satisfaction team explaining the situation and asking for a logical explanation as to why this cannot be done.

I don't see the need for everyone on the reservation to show IDs when checking in unless there's the dining plan involved. The only name that used to be on all the room keys was the name of the person on the reservation. When making reservations they never used to ask for the names of all parties; this is how every other hotel we've stayed at does things. In my opinion, it's none of anyone's business who is staying in the room with me as long as I'm not over occupancy limits. Most of the time when I reserve a DVC room, I only put my name, then add my husband or anyone else traveling with us when we check in.

This has nothing to do with emh; it's relatively recently that they started asking for names to put on the extra room keys.(we've been staying at WDW hotels since the late '80s)

I'm very puzzled about this... :confused3
I'm sure every DVC member does not have an original name.
And with non-member guests and renting points, the name possibilities are endless.
Unless you are the primary DVC member on the reservation they do not list any numbers.
How is it possible to cross reference all the reservations?
Unless someone calls and asks about putting a name on two rooms, I don't see how they would know.
So if you call and ask to put Joe Smith on your reservation but two other Joe Smiths already have rooms you can't add him?
We have many people with the same names in our family.

I actually don't understand why I can't have two rooms anyways.
They are my points! DH and I have joked about getting another room when we travel with all our kids just for us.

Next year we are going to have a 2 bedroom at BCV with 5 people in the room and a studio with 2 adults. So of the max occupancy (12) between the two rooms, we will have 7.

My SIL is staying in a 2BR at BWV, 2 adults, 3 children.

Can we add them to our BCV rooms so they can join us at SAB? We would still be in our allowable occupancy (we would add the 3 kids in our rooms and the parents in the studio)... Or, since their names are on the BWV reservation can they not be listed as guests of 2 rooms on property at the same time?

Thanks!

The problem is that you explained to them exactly what you wanted to do...too much info. Call and tell them you are adding new guests to your reservation (don't tell them they are staying in another villa). Give them that specific reservation number and the guests names. They will not know those guests are on another reservation unless you tell them.

Make two phone calls. One for each room.

Call Member Services and ask what you need to do to be able to accomplish this, if they say you can't add people to your villa who are staying somewhere else, then it is not legit regardless of how any of us feel about it. .

If they do, then add them and enjoy the pool. That was my point.

I do know due to the fact I have firefighters in our family, that hotels like to have an accurate count of how many are actually in a room and even names for emergency situations such as fires.

There are many rules, guidelines I don't agree with, or as Brian said are silly but call me a rule stickler I just do it, even if I don't agree. I have a serious thing about Karma

I agree up to a point and I'm a rule follower as well else we have chaos. However, I'll point out that there are written rules, actual rules as enforced and made up rules. Examples might include Bed, Bath and beyond allowing the use of expired coupons or DVC allowing 5 in a 1 BR not legally slated for 5. The double secret once in a lifetime exception is another good DVC example. This "rule" which I've never seen in writing, seems to vary with almost every CM that references it. IMO, establishing the actual rule is the first step and I'm not willing to take MS, or even a supervisor's, word for it. I would agree with many that the intent is important to the ultimate answer.

Totally agree, if I have an expired coupon and the person at BBB, says no, I am fine with it, if they take it, I say Thank You. I did not even know they would take them until I had one, that I gave to the clerk without my glasses on. She was the one to tell me.

Which is why I would call or ask at check in. If the front desk says we don't have a problem I am good to go. If they say no, then that is fine too.

However, no one here can give that permission.

The only problem with simply calling or asking at check in is you might get a random answer, like the answer some have gotten from MS lately saying that renting is against the rules. I agree it's still a good starting point but not necessarily the end point. There are also reasons for rules, likely in the case being discussed, related to the Dining Plan and related programs. In the example I listed previously, my need was to be able to check in to all 9 units and to pay the $95 resort services fee myself. I didn't need to be listed in the unit otherwise. I told MS what I needed and they worked it out so that I could check in without being listed as an occupant. Sometimes "rules" take on a mind of their own. We see it all the time with our organization where rules are misunderstood or even made up, in either case, they tend to take on a life of their own over time. About every other planning meeting we find ourselves dealing with such a situation, sometimes having to go back and see what the actual agreed upon rules are.
