Can Splenda cause stomach cramps?

I had a skinny latte this morning at Dunkin Donuts. It was very good BTW, only a 100 calories! It is made with skim milk and Splenda. After I drank it I had the worst stomach cramps and wondered if it was the Splenda. If not, something else made my stomach cramp so bad! Ouch!

It seems to do it to me--I avoid all of that stuff! But then again, I can't handle soy either, so it could just be a sensitive system.

Yes Splenda can cause you to have a stomach ache! Splenda is a sugar alcohol derived from plants and berries. They are slow-digesting substances. Because sugar alcohols are slow to digest, they often cause stomach distress, causing gas and cramping. Some people are more sensitive to this than others. Nutrasweet does this to me. Fortunately Splenda does not!

Only way to know for sure is to try it again (or another product made with Splenda). You might be sensitive to it. Fortunately for me, none of these sweetners affect me, though I do prefer the taste of Splenda over the others.

I can't handle Splenda or NutraSweet or any of that stuff. It kills my stomach! Luckily, I have no desire to use sugar subtitutes!!! (Maybe I should, but I don't!)

Thanks, I feel better! Actually I don't feel better, but it's good to know that I might have an idea of where my stomach cramps came from.

I have sensitive to certain food additives, i.e. MSG so I am certain that I could also be sensitive to Splenda.

I don't know if I can try a latte with Splenda just to see if it would make me sick. I have been so sick today, I just want this to be over!

I personaly have never had a problem with Splenda. But I do get a tummy ach whenever I have a creamy coffee. Maybe it was the frothy milk.

I have used Splenda with no adverse effects but I type medical reports and I just had one the other day where the patient was talking with her mother and the mom mentioned that several of her friends stopped using Splenda due to the stomach cramps. The daughter gave up Splenda for several days and no more stomach cramps. I think it has that effect on a lot of people unfortunately. :( But at least you know to stay away from it now.

you know - I've used splenda nearly every day for the past..5 years?
never had a problem.

but frothy milk will get me every time! (and I ONLY drink skim milk...can't stand whole milk/cream)

however - Dunkin Donuts coffee tastes WEIRD with splenda...or...it's just the fact that they are now using those "flavor shots" for coffee instead of actually ground vanilla or hazelnut coffees. I also get my DD coffee with Equal (odd...I know)

SOOOO...in the OP's case....
haev you had a 'flavored coffee' from DD prior to these lite lattees? could it have been the flavor syrup? (no sugar in them - all crap to be honest)

I'm so disappointed that Dunking Donuts now uses flavor shots...the coffee never tastes the same at different shops, and sometimes the flavor never gets put in.
