I'm flying out of Toronto to Orlando with Air Canada on their first flight 6:30 a.m. I plan to check in on-line and print our boarding passes. But we have luggage to check in. I understand that you can print and tag your own luggage at the airport from their kiosk? http://www.aircanada.com/en/travelinfo/traveller/selftagging.html
Do we then go directly through security and customs without going to the air canada counter? Also I plan to get to the airport around 5:00 a.m. since we have already checked in. Is this a bad idea? Thanks.

What day are you flying out on? There is a morning rush to clear security and then US customs and that can back up an hour or so depending on the day/time. Rush hour is around 7 am with all the business travelers trying to get to the USA for work. If you are there at 5 am I can't see it being to bad.

when you arrive either look for the baggage check in sign or ask one of the A/C staff that wander around where you check your bags. You will then proceed through customs with your bags and once you clear that will put them on the belt for loading.

If you get caught up in line at customs and your flight is boarding look for an airline worker and ask for assistance.

Even if their is a long line at Customs and one of their agents says who is on flight # and you say yes I am, it does help you get threw faster. However it will not help you clear the security screening any faster, so just thought you should keep that in mind incase they are having any long lines.
