can someone walk me through how waitlists work.

I have nights 2,3,4, and 5 secured at Boardwalk (1 bedroom standard view). The 1st night is not available.

Now, a 1 bedroom pool view is open for night 1. I am reluctant to book that just because it would be a pain to move rooms on day 2.

My question is.... do I do a waitlist request just for a single night for the 1 bedroom standard view. If that come through, will they tack that on to the nights I have so I don't have to change rooms?

Yes, you would waitlist that single night since you already have the others. If it matches it's a manual process for a CM to finalize so if they notice you have the other nights they will just tack it on. If they don't you can always call and have MS combine the reservations into one.

Unless it were going to require borrowing I'd book the pool/garden view that is available and set up the standard view waitlist to replace it if it matches. I can be a pain to move, but worse to have no room.

If you do book the Pool/Garden as a back up, do not let the waitlist go past 31 days. If it should come through after that, you will see the points you "saved" go into holding. That may be OK with you - I have done it in the past and considered the lost points to be part of the "insurance" that allowed me to sleep at night knowing I had a place to stay as well as a chance to stay in the same room if the waitlist worked at the last minute.

Just a flip side of the coin, moving may not be so bad. Easier if you don't have a large travel party, but keeping overnight stuff easy to reach and not unpacking just for the first night isn't so bad. You have your room until 11 am. You can check your luggage with bell services, have lunch, go to the pool and then move into your new room. We've done this a once or twice, when it was just two of us. It may be worth it to make sure you have your room for that night.
