We are planning our first cruise for October 2005 unless we have a great summer this year then it will be January 2005.

We are looking into doing the Western 7 day and we are a couple in our early thirties from Canada and NO KIDS...

We think we would like to be at a large table for second seating that way we might meet a few couples to talk to.

When is formal night?
When is character breakfast?
When to do Palo?
What is your preference?

Thanks for any and all info...

Also what are the do not miss things to do on the cruise and what to do at each port that would not cost a furtune.

:crazy: I know...Lots of ?????? but I know the DIS is the place for answers...:hyper:

A lot of people like PLAPLAP, because you would eat at Lumieres on Formal night, which is Sunday. Don't miss the sail away party or Animator's Palate show first night. Character breakfast follows the night you eat at Animator's and are not in port, which above would mean Thursday.

Palo is your call, can't help you there.

Checkout disneycruise.com and FunOnShore and see what interests you and come back and ask about it. Have fun.

We are two adults, cruise with no kids.

We really don't care what rotation we get...we love being in Parrot Cay. Lumieres is our least favorite, and the show in AP does nothing for us.

Palo...we go as often as we can..lol.

We study up on the ports we will be visiting, hours, etc, and then decide which day to visit palo on.

We like going to Palo's on the second rotation of Animator's Palate because they don't turn the light show on the second time around, so it's kind of boring.

We were on the 7 night Western this past September. Unless it has changed, formal night is Monday & semi-formal night is Thursday. These are both days at sea. I'm assuming they do it this way so you have a little more time to get ready for dinner (especially we woman folk ;) ). We had early seating with the APL rotation. This rotation puts you at Lumiere's on formal & semi-formal night which I liked. Lumiere's is the most formal of the three restaraunts so you would dress a bit nicer when dining there anyways. We went to Palo for dinner our 2nd night at Animator's Palate which was Tuesday. Another option would be to have dinner at Palo on Friday because you will be at your first dinner restaraunt for a 3rd night.

Hope this helped :D

Does anyone know when they do the theme nights (mexicali... and It's a Small World)?

Formal night is Sunday and semi formal is Thursday. We prefer PLAPLAP rotation too.Palo brunch is best option. Nat:Pinkbounc

Natdencro,

Formal night is the night you are in Key West now? I'm surprised because of all the sunset/evening activities in Key West. I wouldn't mind skipping normal dining for such activities but would not want to skip lobster dinner!

According to www. castaway club. com (spaces inserted to allow listing -- otherwise it blocked it out with *****************), the dining rotation is as follows.

Dining Rotation: Western

Night Port Menu Dress code
sat Port Canaveral Rotation Casual
sun Key West Rotation Casual
mon Day at Sea Rotation Formal
tue Grand Cayman Around the World Casual
wed Cozumel Mexicali... Tropical
thu Day at Sea Captain's Gala Semi-Formal
fri Castaway Cay Best of Master Chef Casual

Formal night is third night -- Monday, day at sea.

Yes, that's true for the Western itinerary.

Yes, that's true for the Eastern itinerary.

Here are the details for the Western itinerary:
 • Saturday — Welcome Aboard Variety Show
 • Sunday (Key West) — Who Wants to Be a Mouseketeer?
 • Monday (at sea; formal night) — The Golden Mickeys
 • Tuesday (Grand Cayman) — Hercules: the Muse-ical
 • Wednesday (Cozumel; Mexican/tropical night) — recent Disney movie in the Walt Disney Theatre
 • Thursday (at sea; semi-formal night) — Disney Dreams
 • Friday (Castaway Cay) — Farewell Variety Show

dumb question here... How do you know what rotation you have? I know I have main seating... where does rotation come into play?

Thanks!

It will be on your Key to the World Card as a three letter code

A= Animator's
P= Parrot Cay
L= Lumier's

Whatever order those letter are in is your rotation. Folks debate the merits of various rotations but it is sort of the luck of the draw. We have had very little luck in changing our rotation once on the ship.

do you get your KTTW with your documents so that you know ahead of time? I've read that people know ahead somehow so that they can plan their Palo reservations accordingly.

You get the KTTW card when you check in at the port. The folks who know ahead of time, and get to choose are in stateroom categories 1,2,3 with concierge service, or have the Romantic Escape at Sea (REAS) package.

I was completely confused by all the choices I had, so before I went I made an Excel spreadsheet for the cruise, and made a timeline for the week. I blocked out all the dinner times, show times, excursions, and times the ship was in port. DH laughed at me initially, but it made it very easy to schedule our Palo's brunch, wine tasting, spa and hair-braiding appointments! Plus it is fun to look at now the cruise is over. I can remember what I did when, because it's all written down!

We had PLAPLAP rotation, so were in Animator's Palate for formal night, and had the Thursday character breakfast. It was nice to be able to sleep in a little on the first sea day after having had to be up early the previous two days. We went to Palo's for brunch, and really enjoyed the food and the view.

Any chance you might share that excel file? I would love to look at it?

Yes, me too - I'd be interested in seeing it. Sounds like it was a great help (I'm a mega-planner like that too) :wave2:

Count me in on the spreadsheet too!! I'm a WDW mega-planner and DCL newbie with 3 cruises planned for next year ! Honestly - I don't know where to start! Thanks!! Jill

DH is going to help me with creating a personal webpage, and I'll post it there, unless some nice :) moderator would like to help me post it here! :p
