Can someone tell me about Skylanders?

We have this game for the xbox and my son DS10 loves it.We loaded up on the figures last year on BF BOGO. This year I saw TRU is doing it again, so we will get a few more and probably some giants as well. We already have the giants game. It can be a money pit, but he still plays quite a bit, and its the only game that both my kids will play together. I even play, its lots of fun.

My 7 year old DS really wants Skylanders for our x-box. I am really confused about what to buy. I know I would have to buy a starter kit. Can someone give me an idea of what else I would have to purchase to get him started and keep him going for a little while? Could I buy the Giants starter set or do I have to start with the regular Skylanders first?

You can start with either one. Just get the starter set and the game will guide him through and he can decide which "characters" or figures he want to add or get rid of as he plays it. They only extra thing I would get a newbie is a storage case and thats about it. Oh and welcome.... my DS has been a Skylander fan for 2 years now and the storage case comes in handy when you are up at 3am checking to see who actually won the auction on ebay after your bid of $75 bucks was beaten to get a rare figure Skylander figure. Oh yeah, it can get that serious but you are about six months away from that drama...lol BTW i have only paid $45 for one on ebay but "It's all I really want for my birthday" said my only son. Enjoy!

Sorry to dig up an old thread.... but just wanted say that Target has the Giants Starter Pack w/ portal for $49 right now through Wednesday. I bought it yesterday in the Atlanta area. I think Wal-mart will have it a little cheaper on Thanksgiving day or BF, but I don't go anywhere near that place if I can help it. Mine isn't in a very good place.

Oh wow. Thanks for this thread! About a month or so ago I saw a starter pack with the game and 3 guys on special at BJ's for about $35 (for Xbox...which we don't even have yet, but it is on DS's wish list), which IIRC was like a $20 discount or something. So I picked it up to put away for Christmas or his birthday since I thought the guys looked cool the way they go into the game...guess I had no clue what I stumbled into!

I better go home this evening and see what I actually bought. I'm guessing it must be the first generation guys and game...and hopefully the portal! Or maybe I want to return it and not even get into this whole thing, LOL!

I bought some used figures from a friend and they had the Spyro Adventure game. How can I tell if they were series 1 or series 2 figures? I have a Zook Giants figure is it the same as a Zook from series 1 or 2 looks wise or in game play?

Looking at their website, Spyro is Series 1 and Giants is Series 2.

Maybe I should have said that more clearly. The kids had the original Spyro Adventure game but I am not sure if the figures are series 1 or 2 because both work with the original game. I just do not know how to tell the difference between the ones I have because they are no longer in boxes. Some have cards but cannot tell. Just trying to figure out if the will work with Giants too or just with original game.

Our Target had it on sale for $49 (our Kmart didnt have it for $39) and they were sold out. Like someone said earlier I dont want to go to walmart on black friday..... So I took the ad to Walmart and they prices matched the $49..still saved from the $74.99.. We do not have the orginal game so I needed to by the starter pack for the Wii....

Oh brother, this is smelling of the Fisher Price Peek-a-Blocks from when DS was a baby...I can see myself going nuts with all of the different things to buy
