What is the difference between "vacation points" and "reservation points"? I was looking at my vacation info on the DVC website and my OKW trip for 2008 says xxx vacation pts, but my AKV one says xxx reservation pts. Just curious. Thanks!

It's due to the lack of support for AKV in DVC's computer system. You are actually using "vacation points" for AKV.

The difference between "vacation" and "reservation" points is this: the points you get every year are vacation points and stay that way when used to book DVC resorts. If you use your DVC points to book at a non-DVC resort at WDW (to book a room at the Poly, for example) those points become reservation points. If you later cancel that reservation at the Poly, you get the points back but they stay "reservation points" and there are restrictions on their use. For example, you cannot book a DVC resort using "reservation points". You would have to use them to book at another non-DVC resort.

It appears that DVC's computers still don't support AKV so they are using some hack to book AKV in the way they would book you into AKL - and that changes your points from "vacation" to "reservation" points. So if you had to cancel your AKV reservation, MS would probably have to do some manual process behind the scenes to reinstate your points.

Thank you, LisaS! I thought I knew what reservation points were, but then I became confused when it said my AKV ressie used reservation pts. Thanks for explaining it to me!
