Hi...My dh and I have 320 points at SSR...This is a good number for us at this time.
We purchased in January and have actually rented all the points out and even some of next yrs...This is because we have a vacation already planned and paid for to POFQ in August...we want to keep this because we got free dining with the UK offer.
We are also not going to Disney next year because we are visiting friends in Canada next year . We live in the UK so its a long haul and expensive flights ...we can't visit too often yet.
We bought in January because we couldn't resist the friends and family offer and we Know we want many more trips to disney long term.
The remaining points we have for next year we are going to bank and we plan a massive DVC trip with friends in 2009..:)
Anyway my question is ....we are thinking about buying about 200 more points mainl;y because the pound is so strong right now it would be an excellent deal..and we know in the future we will need more points as our vacation needs change...especially when the kids grow up.
Will be able to rent these 200 points in the mean time? I mean near enough every year till we need them for ourselves...I wouldn't want disney to think iam a commercial renter.:confused3 ...i suppose 200 is relatively a small amount of points.
I just want to cover all bases before we jump in and buy them now.

Those who have complained of intervention by DVC have received letters from DVC Legal saying they've been identified as "commercial renters" because they made in excess of 20 reservations in a 12 month period. Most of those folks would be renting thousands of points, and they are the ones Disney is concerned about. I doubt if they'll get concerned about you making 3-4 ressies a year.

I agree with Jim's comments. I don't think the OP's scenario is one that Disney is worried about stopping.

I'm with Jim and Granny on this one too. Unless you make 20 seperate studio 1 night ressies for 20 different people, it's HIGHLY unlikely you would hit the "threshold" that has been drawn in the sand. I think your plan is a good one, and it will also give you extra points for that "special" trip too!

Thanks everyone..:thumbsup2 ..I feel much happier about it now..Its good to know we won't be pegged as commercial renters.
The extra 200 points will defo come in handy in 2009..as we are planning a grand gathering all on us...it will involve banking and borrowing I think.
Can't wait.:)

I guess I'm confused. If you aren't even using the points why do you want to buy more? With banking and borrowing, you could have up to 960 points to use for a single trip. Surely that would be enough to make the reservations you need for a grand gathering.

I, too, would want to take advantage of the great exchange rate and also add-on before any more price increases. :)

You never have enough points for a large family reunion. I've borrowed three years points at 1890pts and then purchased over 500 points from a member for the same trip. we are now up to 35 people and I need another studio. So don't listen to people saying why do you need more. if I was in your situation with dollar versus the pound I would buy every point i could afford. With the long distance you have to travel, your trips can be longer especially when you retire. YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MANY POINTS

I think the OP means that they're trying to stock up on points now to use not just for the one grand gathering, but for future trips with their kids. Once those grandchildren come along, the need for bigger rooms comes fast. We've gone from a studio to a two-bedroom with amazing speed! And that takes a lot of points, let me tell you. Plus, coming from the UK, they'll probably stay for quite a long time to make it worth the trip over, so that'll use up a lot of points, too.

(Sorry if I'm putting words in your mouth, OP!)

Yes thats right papa bear...in the future we will use every one of our 520points easily.:)
We never go to DW for less than two weeks as we are flying from the UK...so we think stocking up now whilst the pound is strong would be a good decision...plus the cost per point will only get higher in years to come.
Plus the more points we have in 2009 the more friends and family we can invite along..:)
But probably most yrs 320 points will be enough until our children are older ...and yes once grandchildren come along we will probably wish we had purchased more.:)
