Can someone please give me some ideas on how to get my mind off from flying,
Is there anything that i can do to calm me down? :grouphug:

I usually have a drink and make sure I have plenty of reading materials. I don't look out the windows and I watch the flight attendants, in my mind if they are up and around then everything is ok.

I have the same problem. I just carry books or travel games. My children and I play games and it passes the time more quickly. I do not sit by the window either. My kids take turns. One way my ds sits by the window, on the way back my dd does. They love to look out. When we get where I can see ground I love to look out also. If you feel like you may get very upset or sick take dramimine before hand.

I don't have any issues with flying but have read that others have talked to their dr. about getting a prescription of something like Xanax to help relax them. Maybe just have your iPod or cd player ready with lots of good distracting tunes, bring a magazine or book to read, or try to get some sleep? Good Luck!

Bring snacks and a portable DVD movie player to watch. You will feel more comfortable if there is something to keep you occupied.

Depending on the airline, their may be tvs so you can watch tv which will relax you and make the time go by. You can take dremamine which will make you sleep through the flight. If there aren't tvs and you don't want to take the dremamine, I agree with the above posts about the portable dvd player and reading materials. I also bring a crossword book or logic puzzles..stuf to keep me occupied and make the time go by more quickly.

When I go to Europe...I take some Ativan for the frist half of the flight and than when the it wears off I just listen to my ipod, I also take some a book, or some work to do if I any...just to make the time to go by faster.
For shorter flights I just take the ativan.
So if it something that really bothers you, I would just go ask the doc for something. If you take one ativan your just drosy and grogy, but if you take 2 you pretty sleep the way there.

I love my Ipod and mp3 player. I put all types of music on it from soothing smooth jazz to rock and roll then I just close my eyes and try to relax as much as possible.

Here is something to consider. Ask yourself what about the flight bothers you. This can be done from the comforts of your living room couch. Imagine you're on a plane. Explore every inch of it....the cabin, the crew, the seats, the restrooms, even the engine if you like. Then envision the flight itself. Where are you sitting? What would it be like to sit by the window (remeber you're still in your living room)? What is take off like, how is the weather, is the flight smooth or bumpy...how is the landing? What about the flight is enjoyable, and what is irritating or frustrating to you? Once you have fully experienced all of this in a "safe" place, it might just make your real flight a bit more tolerable, and over time even enjoyable! There is a reason to all of our fears, it's getting to the root and dealing with them from there that will allow us to overcome them. Yes the drugs will get you through the flight, but the fear will continue to exist until it is addressed. Hope this helps.

I would think to take things that you need to concentrate on....crosswords, books, even writing a journal - i will even color in my kids books. The music is also good. Maybe also think of all the things you can do at Disney!!

I am usually pretty drugged because of my ear/sinus problems that I have. I usually take 4 sudafeds before the plane takes off and become quite mellow.. I am also scared to fly but I don't let it stop me. Just considered it a challenge that you can get through and reward yourself with a nice disney souvernir in the end..

Hi Danuel:
First, I see you're from NC,.... Oh, thats a hop, skip and jump...you'll be their in No Time! So many posters said so many great idea's and I second them especially the DVD player with a movie (if its not offered on your flight) before you know it you'll have landed and your MAGICAL vacation will begin.
Here's a HUG from me to you.......
Have a wonderful time!!!!

If you are truly stressing about ......it three months out, see your doctor and Xanax can perhaps work wonders for you! See what he/she says and
GOOD LUCK< YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

If you haven't flown before, it might help knowing that other than the take-off and landing, it's pretty much like a bus trip, only much shorter. I know others might not agree with me, but it seems similar to me, and knowing that makes me more relaxed.

Bose makes noise cancelling earphones that take the low to mid sounds out of the experience. Or you can bring your Ipod to take your mind off of things.

A couple of Dramimine 30 minutes before your flight will help to calm you during takeoff and landing.

Funny, turbulance puts me to sleep like a baby. But some are petrified in their seats. you might need some valium or other such calming drug, but you do not want one that will disable you. It will all depend on the length of the flight and your doctor that might perscribe something. Just be real about the length of the flight. Nothing fun about having three people standing over you and saying "Are you OK?'
