Can someone help new member with basic?

Of course this comes up 5 min after ms is closed for the weekend!We purchased 200 ssr points last month and received the 200 points for 2005.(UY DEC)I have already booked 2 studios for this Aug,each using 65 points.(2 studios because my college aged DD was bringing a friend) I also booked a trip for Feb 2007 that used 65 points.I banked the remaining 2005 points.Now my DD is not bringing the friend and we don't really need the second studio.I'm totally confused about what to do with these points.What about my 2006 points?Do they become available Dec.2006 or do they have to be USED by Dec 2006? Believe it or not,I understood all this perfectly last month when I purchased and booked,but have since started a new job that is using all my brain cells! Thanks for any help you can give

The 2005 points are good for stays between 12/1/2005 and 11/30/2006. If you bank them, they are good for stays between 12/1/2006 and 11/30/2007.

With a December use year, your deadline to bank all 200 of your points is the end of May. So you still have time to cancel the unneeded studio and bank the points that are returned to your account. That assumes you won't be using the points before 12/1/2006.

FWIW, unless you told MS to use banked 2005 points for the February 2007 trip, MS probably used 2006 use year points for that 02/07 stay.

So it sounds like you have 135 points left in your 2006 use year (200- 65). You used 130 of your 2005 points to book the two studios in August and banked the remaining 2005 use year points (70 points) into the 2006 use year.

If you cancel one studio (for the August trip) and bank those into 2006, you will end up with:

*135 banked points in your 2006 use year. (They will be good for stays between 12/1/2006 and 11/30/2007 and must be used before the end of the 2006 use year or they are lost to you). You cannot bank these points again and you can't "borrow them back" into your 2005 use year..

* 135 points left for your 2006 use year. These could be banked into your 2007 use year or borrowed for a trip during your 2005 use year.

Your 2005 points are good 12/1/05 to 11/30/06. Your 2006 points are good 12/1/06 to 11/30/07. The 2005 points you banked into 2006 will be good for stays up to 11/30/07.

You can't bank any of your 2006 use year points until at least 12/1/2006. If you want to bank all 200 of your annual allotment for 2006, you have until May 31, 2007 to call MS to do it.

Ask MS for a status of your points after you call to cancel one of the August studios and bank your remaining 2005 points. The CM will help you to understand. Call later in the afternoon or later in the week if you want someone to really help you - Monday mornings are very busy, especially right now because members are calling for December reservations.

All points usage is based on date of stay. Your August trip is in your 2005 use year (12/1/05 to 11/30/06). Your February trip is in your 2006 use year (12/1/06 to 11/30/07). You have until the end of May to bank 100% of your 2005 points.

Just so you don't feel too overwhelmed, it took me a while to get this whole point use year thing also. Don't worry. You'll soon be understanding just fine, even though it may come and go for a while.
One more suggestion: when you cancel your studio and bank those 2005 points into 2006 use year, ask the CM to do a point reallocation. This means that they will use the 2005 banked points for your Feb. 2007 trip. That way you can keep your 2006 use year points, meaning those 2006 points can eventually be banked into your 2007 use year if you do not use them.
It sounds more complicated than it really is. Hang in there!

I second the idea of moving up to a 1BR. You were going to use the points anyway so why not treat yourself to the extra room, jacuzzi, and washer and dryer etc. I did this last September for just DH and myself and we so enyjoyed those days at OKW with the big balcony for morning coffee and breakfast. Hope you have a super trip - welcome to DVC.
