can someone help me with the math?

we are heading to Universal in September for 2 nights/3 days. I am trying to figure out which tickets to buy and from where, and also whether it makes sense to buy an AP to get the discounted hotel room. I've been playing around with the numbers so much I'm confusing myself!

currently I have RPR booked for 2 nights with CAA discount
2 nights x $208 = $416

the AP rate for those 2 nights is $144 = 288


I need two other adult tickets (besides myself) and one child.
If I stick with my CAA rate, and buy the 4 tix from UT = $555.80 (3 x 142.95 + $126.95) with a total including my hotel = $971.80
If I buy the AP, and use the AP discount for the hotel, and then buy the rest of the tix from UT = $189 AP + 288 hotel + $412.85 (2 adults and one child) = 889.85

Is this correct? Am I missing something? I need to order tonight for the UT tickets if I want to receive them before we leave. Thanks!

Assuming the AP rate is still available and you snag it (if you haven't booked it yet, do! now!), and the AP price is correct, sounds like AP is the way to go!

You only need the Preferred AP, by the way, for the hotel discount. Don't forget to calculate the AP discounts on most food and merchandise, in your calculations, by the way!

The AP price isn't correct. You've got the PowerPass price listed, and that pass does not give you discounts. You need the Preferred (259.99) at least.


Did the math; still worth it with just $10 on the AP side. But then you include the food/merchandise discounts and it goes up in value.

bumbershoot is correct. The Power pass doesn't give you the discounts.

thanks for the info. I guess that's what I was missing. I think I'll just forget about the AP rate. I might be able to get some discounts on dining and merch with the CAA card anyway.
