My family of five plus my mom plan on going to goofy's kitchen this Septmeber. My mom had weight loss surgery and can only eat very little. I want her to come with us to Goofy's kitchen to help out with the kids and so she can enjoy seeing them with the characters but we don't want to pay for a if she is not going to eat. She usually will have a protien drink in the morning and will not be hungry at all when we are there for breakfast. Can she just order a coffee or nothing?

As far as I know, no, you cannot just go. But if you can bring proof that she has had weight loss surgery, you can get a discount (at least the do this in WDW, so I would think the DLR would offer this too). I think you need a note from your doctor or something. Check with Disney dining first to make sure they do this in the DLR.

Unfortunately no. You are paying for the character experience along with the food. Kids never eat much but the price is still there. A note from the doc won't do anything besides they can not ask to see one

Regarding the part I took the liberty of bolding above: in my experience the rules and procedures at WDW do not necessarily apply at DLR, and vice versa.

Since you are paying for the character interaction as well as the food, and especially since it's a buffet, I can't imagine them allowing anyone in who didn't pay full price. But I guess it never hurts to ask.

Yup, that's why I said to check with Disney Dining.

I am adding in that I have never done this. I heard about it from a podcast when someone sent in this exact question and I also read a thread about it on here (WDW boards though). There was a lot of debate in there about whether or not Disney could require you to show proof and people were arguing about that as they love to do on here. And some people were reporting that this had worked for them at some buffets and not at others, so it is never a guarantee.

You could go to Storytellers where people can order off the menu instead of eating from the buffet. Maybe that would help.

I had thought I read that at WDW, they would be charged the kids price versus the adults. But I can't remember what I read about providing proof of the surgery. As the PP's said, WDW and DLR do have different rules though so I would definitely call & speak to someone directly.

Given that this is a very situation-specific question, I would highly suggest calling and asking directly. 714-781-DINE

Thanks everyone, I will call soon, it would be nice if they just let us pay the kids price for her. We are on a tight budget to the price of the meal is a splurge for us.

Since I am changing ressies thru V.P. I asked this question with the same circumstances and the CM said no. She did say if someone at the resort said yes, to make sure you get it in writing since the GK people follow the rules.

Good luck with your quest,

Jack

I would take a doctors note and ask. My mom had gastric bypass surgery a few years ago and we went to the park just a few months later. She had a note from her doctor and they let us purchase at the kids price for her. It didn't seem like they had a problem with it at all. This was about 4 years ago though, so things might have changed. I would take the note and try it.

I would ask at the restaurant. Even if Disney Dining says no (or yes), it will be up to the people at GK to decide and I think you would have a better chance of getting some sort of discount by asking the people at the restaurant directly. If go and ask on a different day than your reservations, and they say yes to a discount, make sure to get their name. Also, I wonder if there's a way to call that restaurant directly to ask, instead of disney dining. I wouldn't trust any answers from disney dining just because it seems like the CMs who work the phones sometimes give different information. I'm sure they won't let her go for free, but like someone else said, maybe they would give her the kid's price.

Great advice everyone. I think my mom will really want to go even if we have to pay full price for her, plus it may be worth it just to have her help keeping the kids to behave at the table, they always seem to do great for grandma.:)

In October 2008, we went to DLR with another family, the mom recently had gastric bypass surgery. She had a doctor's note and some type of medical card. She was able to show this at Ariel's Grotto and Goofy's kitchen and was able to receive the kid's meal price (a significant discount as most of us here know :) ) I think it's worth a try - just make sure to bring some sort of documentation.
